Super Mario Bros. Turns 30 in Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo's iconic platformer Super Mario Bros. celebrates its 30th anniversary today in Japan.

The Japanese game maker devised one of the earliest side-scrolling titles back in the '80s, as a simple to understand, yet difficult to master, concept. Designed by famed Nintendo staffers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, the game launched on the Famicom (NES) on 13th September 2015, released two years later in the West.

Since then, Nintendo have gone onto create a wide range of main-series Super Mario Bros. titles, spin-off games, remakes and ports.

Recently, Miyamoto had suggested the the Mario series should go in a new direction.
