E3 2014 | Aonuma Comments Again on Zelda: Majora

During E3 Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma was asked about the much requested Majora's Mask remake.

With The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds all wrapped up, completed and released many moons ago, fans have wondered whether the next Nintendo 3DS game would be a remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

In an interview, Aonuma did acknowledge the sheer number of fans who would like to play a remade, spruced-up version. "I've heard that voice, it's very, very strong, and I'm always listening," he said.

When asked about the inclusion of a Majora's Mask decoration in A Link Between Worlds, Aonuma said that "Maybe I was toying with them a little. (laughter)" and that "just to acknowledge the fact that the need, the want is out there, I put that in there."

Would you want to play a remake of Majora's Mask, if so, on which platform?

Get Grezzo back on the case. They did such great work with OoT 3DS I don't see why they shouldn't be trusted again.

In fact, having had a look at what they've developed from Wikipedia, it looks like Grezzo's last project was StreetPass Mii Plaza released nearly a year ago, with nothing else announced as in development from them. It's certainly possible they could already be at work on MM.

^^ Hopefully they are, but tbh I would like a Wii U version instead - Majora's Mask HD would be better imo!

I agree & it would help sell Wii Us. 3DS is doing fine so I think a Wii U version of MM (with extra content pretty please Nintendo!!) would be a better idea.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

To be fair I think its too early for another remake. Majora's Mask is definitely next in line but perhaps for Nintendo's next handheld/console. We have just got Wind Waker and OoT, plus ALBW's utilised a LTTP landscape. Lets hope for a more original Zelda for now and hope to get MM at launch on Nintendo's new console many moons (see what i did there :ninjaSmilie away from now.

Agreed about Grezzo too, i think they did a great job with OoT. Maybe they could be working on a new Metroid for all we know Smilie

Would love an HD version of a 3DS version, but from a pure financial standpoint, as I discussed so oftentimes, a 3DS version recycling the assets of OoT 3D (as they did between the two N64 originals) would make more sense, with Grezzo taking on development duties once again. As far as I know their last game came out in 2013 and that was a Streetpass Plaza DLC mini-game so they can't have been very busy doing that, surely they must have been working on something else on the side, and all the way up till now, since that Flower garden thingie was out in 2013. Those folks have to work to put some bread on their table too, after all! They can't have just been doing nothing for these past months Smilie.

I'm for new Zelda, to be honest. As Flynnie said, this gen has seen an OOT remake, a Wind Waker remake and even A Link Between Worlds had the landscape from A Link to the Past. Save it for the next consoles and spread them out now. I'd love to see a brand new 3D Zelda on the 3DS eventually (might come near the end of the systems life) and obviously the new Zelda is coming out for Wii U, which looks to be incredible.

I have no doubt a Majora's Mask remake will happen, but I can see why Nintendo don't want to overcrowd the next two years with Zelda games. Hyrule Warriors, Zelda U and MM all being shown at E3 woulda been a bit much, I think. Shows need their variety.

I fully expect to see MM3D revealed at some point either later this year or next year.

Having Majora's Mask on 3DS with similar assets just makes too much sense for them to wait for the next handheld. They were originally on the same console, so I feel that it would be unfair to Ocarina of Time if the other N64 game got a different treatment.

A proper remake on the Wii U is also a complete waste of resources if you consider the changes they'd have to make for it to look great on the big screen, it doesn't have the timeless style of The Wind Waker, after all. Ocarina of Time 3DS was a smart remake, updating aspects that really needed it while not doing too much to textures etc. that weren't overly important.

I agree with SuperLink that I could easily see Majora's Mask 3D announced later this year (perhaps after Hyrule Warriors is out) or sometime next year. It wouldn't really impact a new 3DS Zelda, either, if Grezzo handles the remake again with supervision of Aonuma. With so many assets already updated, they also wouldn't have to spend too much time on it.

ahahahaha
