Fans across the globe have been hunting, training and battling Nintendo's 649 critters since February 1996 in Japan.
Nintendo's longrunning and second most profitable franchise (defeated only by Super Mario Bros) was originally launched on February 27th 1996 in Japan, where it was known as Pocket Monsters with two editions out on the market: Red and Green. Blue soon followed, and together with Red made their way to the west in 1998/1999 and the rest is history.
Five generations and over fifty official, spin-off and remakes later, the series is still going ever-strong across the globe, with companion anime/manga, magazines, books and a never-ending supply of merchandise.
Pokemon Black and White are both due out on March 4th in Europe, March 6th in the US and finally March 10th in Australia.
Gotta catch 'em all, Pokemon!
