Level-5 has released a new trailer for Professor Layton on Nintendo 3DS, as well as further details. Whilst Europe is on the verge of receiving the third entry into the puzzle adventure series, the 10/10-rated Professor Layton and the Lost Future, which arrives on 22nd October, Japan is actually preparing itself for the fifth title, Professor Layton and the Mask of the Miracle, which is set to be a Japanese launch game after it was transferred across from a standard DS title to 3DS.
As well as more animated movie footage than ever before, and plenty of voice acting, the Professor and his assistant, Luke, are now represented as cel-shaded 3D models set against 2D backgrounds, yet with message windows that various pieces of in-game art stacked in a manner that gives a depth to on-screen imagery. The lower screen can also be touched to bring up a magnifying glass on the top screen that can be dragged around for interrogating your surroundings.
Check out the latest trailer below, as well as a quote from Level-5's CEO:
The Professor Layton characters will come out in 3D, and you'll feel like you're there. The focus thus far has been on puzzles where you read text, but this time we're making a new puzzle solving system. Because the images come out of the screen, the focus will be on play through the pictures, resulting in a more direct feel that will allow for children to understand as well.
- Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino.
With Europe only getting the third game later this month, the fifth game certainly is not likely to make the 3DS launch in this territory, unless Level-5 and Nintendo fast-track the fourth game's release.
