Nintendo Tops US Sales for March, 2010 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The latest US sales data for the month of March has now been release by the NPD Group. The big winner this month was Nintendo on the hardware front, with the DS and Wii storming the hardware charts, even amidst talk of there still being some Wii shortages. As for the software side, God of War III slams home at No.1 on PS3, whilst the Pokémon duo of SoulSilver and HeartGold sold a combined amount of 1,781,200 units, beating the first month total of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, which sold 1,757,000. The dual system launch of Final Fantasy XIII helps the franchise achieve its highest ever first month sales, with the PS3 edition almost doubling the Xbox 360 version.

Demand for Nintendo fun continues unabated. We’re glad so many people are able to get their hands on our systems as we prepare for the May launches of Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii and Picross 3D for our Nintendo DS systems. Four of the top 10 best-selling games in March play only on Nintendo systems. These include Pokémon SoulSilver at No.1 with more than 1.01 million units sold, Pokémon HeartGold at No.5 with more than 761,000 units sold, New Super Mario Bros. Wii at No.7 with more than 457,000 units sold, and Wii Fit Plus with Wii Balance Board accessory at No.10 with more than 339,000 units sold.
- Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

It has also been reported that in its first twelve days on sale in the US, Red Steel 2 on Wii sold 50,000 units. This does not compare favourably with the likes of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which sold 50-60,000 units in its first five days, or even SEGA's MadWorld, which sold 65,000 in its first month. Nintendo's Wii in general managed to achieve its best non-holiday sales month since March last year. March 2010 is also the first non-holiday month since June 2009 that the Nintendo DS has surpassed 700,000 sales. As for Sony's PlayStation 3, this is the first time since its US launch that the system has had four of its games feature in the Top 10. Finally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now the second-best-selling game of all time in the US, after Wii Play, having sold around 395,000 across all formats this month.

Strange, when Gold and Silver came out for the GBC, Gold outsold Silver by a great margin. I wonder why the change?

I always try to get the least sold version, so my chances on trading are bigger. I never understood why 1 version sells so much more than the other...

Wow, can you look at how low the Wii is selling and how people have stoped buying it once the PS3 and the 360 dropped in price? Once Natal and Move are released the Wii won't sell at all because people want motion controls on the HD twins to pay 3 times as much as for it as on Wii...
