Home console sales have leapt to 22 million in the UK, up from 13.5 million in January 2008.
The results were compiled by Gfk-ChartTrack data that notes sales of the three home consoles, Xbox 360, Wii and PS3, have increased from 4.7 million to 10 million units as of January 3rd 2009. Nintendo's ever popular Wii accounted for almost 1/2 the sales - with a huge amount sold between January 2008 and 2009. Sales for the console rose from 2 million to 4.9 million. Sales for the Xbox 360 rose from 1.8 million to 3.2 million, with Sony's efforts bringing the install base for the PS3 to a comfortable 1.9 million.
Nintendo had continual success in the handheld arena also, seeing total DS sales of 8.8 million units, alongside Sony PSP's install bass of 3.2 million.
