Captain Rainbow Unveiled with Debut Trailer

By Shane Jury 09.07.2008 32

Japanese Gaming Magazine Famitsu has shed light on one of Nintendo's newest and strangest projects, Captain Rainbow.

Back in February of this year, Nintendo patented Captain Rainbow, and through the latest Famitsu issue, we get to see what it's all about.

Developed by Skip, who also created the cult hit Chibi-Robo for the Gamecube, and to be published by Nintendo, Captain Rainbow has a distinctive Japanese flavor, and sees the main hero, named Nick, fighting off bad guys.

A rather...unique trailer of the game in action is below, accompanied by a character many will find familiar.

Could this be the new i.p Nintendo mentioned? Have your say on this oddity below.

Birdo/Catherine is hardly 3rd tier anymore though.

Agreed

Chibi Robo looked a lot better than this.

More info on Captain Rainbow:

- Nick loves loud clothing
- Captain Rainbow uses a yo-yo in his finishing move
- Captain Rainbow is a TV show mascot, and kids arent tuning into the program.
- Nick travels to Mimin Island, a place where dreams are said to come true
- instead of Nicks dreams being granted, Captain Rainbow must grant the wishes of other island inhabitants
- search the island for people to help
- the island is filled with classic Nintendo characters in-need of help (Birdo, NES Golf character, and many more)
- Nick is helped by Hikari, from the Japan-only adventure game Shin Onigashima

Interesting I can't wait to see how this will all work together. But I wonder is the concept of having characters that only 'hardcore' Nintendo fans recognise is way of trying to please Hardcore Nintendo fans ergo hardcore characters = hardcore game. I wonder how Nintendo will attract casual gamers with this game.

I just like the fact we're getting a new hardcore game.

By the way, the Shin Onigashima music in Brawl is fekken awesome.
