why do people insult other game consoles?

I'm a settled gamer. I have to admit I used to be a fanboy, but I'm over it now. Xbox and PS2 are alright, but I'm sticking to my GC simply cos I think it has the best games on it.

To break the cycle of Im such a great gamer, ill be a poor gamer!!! Although I do have the money to get an X-Box, no really...

i'm a love to many consoles type of gamer.

I don't think that some friendly banter about consoles is bad, but some people realy do take it seriously.

I'm more of a wants everything on the market but has nowhere near enough money to buy anything gamer....

I take the piss out of the Xbrick because it's fun. No-one on TotalGames moderates the Xbrick forum so IaMfRoMhOlLoNd, De_La_Saracen, The Critic and I can make pointless, insulting threads and comments and no-one will do a thing.

If I was the Xbrick owners I'd complain to Simon.

I wanted to resurrect the old chesnut about which is the best console and this struck me as the nearest current thread to do it on.

Having read Tempo's article on GAME and its stocks of GC, I was reminded of a conversation with my mate Steve last week. Now Steve has all 3 consoles and has no axe to grind on any of 'em. Basically, PS2 is the dinosaur of his collection. He loved GT3 and one of the exclusive footie games (I forget which) but without them, he'd dump the system. Xbox he does like and sees it graphically on a par with GC BUT GC wins gold by a mile because of its exclusives. They are not all gaming perfection (for example, Luigi's Mansion was too short) but the quality and originality of the games shines through for him.

BTW, he may be my oldest and best friend, but Steve is his own man and most definitely wouldn't say this just to keep his old mate happy. (I have emailed the site link to him. I hope he joins, he has loads to say although I expect he'll fight $hit to the death over Willow!)

Back to the point, it just frustrates me so much that Nintendo won't do more to promote their console more, and in a more adult-orientated way. I personally couldn't care two hoots about Dixons (I know they are a huge retailer in the UK) because decisions of this nature are taken all the time on all different lines in the store. GAME is a videogame store and its decisions are based soley on the one product. If that is how they feel, that is serious, Incidentally, if I owned a shop and I thought GC would't sell, I too would stick 'em round the back. Of course, by doing that, I'd be proved right.

but surely, you must've noticed the biased towards gamecube that game has... it keeps the gamecube right at the back of the shop...

in my local game the entire gamecube selection is right next to the line where you have to wait in line for 5 mins to get to the gamecube section, damn annoying.

SONY and MICROSOFT pay GAME to let their consoles have pride of place in games stores. Right at the front and with loads more shelf space. Its not that their biased towards Nintendo its that the competition pay more for a greater in store presence

Yep, but there's certainly a corrupt feel about it, even if it is all legit...

To be blunt they're paying to influence the oppinons of others, which might seem a tad strange but it does work. If you walk into a games shop and the first thing you see is a PS2 display looking all eye cathcing and pretty your not going to notice the poxy [in most cases] GameCube display in the corner next to the EduTainment section...

I have the Gamecube, PS2 and now dead Dreamcast. I want an X-Box though not as much as I want the games for the consoles I have. The problem is a lot of people slag off other consoles when they haven't tried them or have tried them and not liked them. It's all down to personal preference, and at the end of the day I hate people who slag off other consoles. It's immature and always will be, any console that's released has to be a respectable piece of gaming kit otherwise it wouldn't sell.

But there will always be conflict between consoles. Hey that's half the fun!

sure, you may think it'll make people buy the console... but people who actually come in to buy a console can't see the gamecube untill they're in the line... how crap is that???

if you walk into the shop it's impossible to see any of the games because of the relatively low racks are about as high as the average persons head...

it's really bad... and seeing as i live in a fairly big town with only 1 decent games retailer (game) there's always mass's of people in it and the people at the till always suck at it and spend at least 2 or 3 minnutes on each person queuing... you can ONLY see the gc section if you queue for 15-20 minnutes... and usually if you wanna buy a devcent game you stans there in a line only to see it's sold out... i have to pre-order ALL my games if i'm planning on buying it from game.

anyway, enough of my rant
