Its human instinct to defend ones decisiosn and judgement, at is something that you have carried out via your own making.
In the case of buying a console you have a few groups:
1) Fanboys: The people that relish in the success of the console they own, and laugh in the face of the failiures of others. They would never dream of buying another console, how wrong would that be.
2)The arrogent gamer: The people who go around starting petty fights about the XBRICK and GAYCUBE and the PLAYSTATION POO, not funny, never was, never will be
3)The liberal gamer: Very much the mature and well bread speicimen, this type of gamer understands that Halo is one of the best games ever, ICO in innovation and pure beauty and that Metriod Prime is Nintendo at their blinding best. These are the people that know that on order to get the best gaming experience you must buy more than one console.
4)The poor gamer: All of number 3 but without the money to own and sustain more than one console.
5)The settled gamer: The gamer who sticks with a format, whilst respecting the fact that people will buy into different consoles. They know that there a good games to be had for the multi format gamer, but they are happy how they are thanks.
So, not everyone feels the need to be petty, far from it, its just some people do. Those that do, do it because they don't have anything better, and don't understand gaming, and how it should be shared.

Thats me! Nice and settled. Oh, and I'm not so sure about Halo. In my opinion, I couldn't get used to the controls and thought this let the game down bad...but still, I didn't have too long on it, so maybe it becomes easier the more you play.

Yeah, its me too. HALO is a very good game, and with the S controler it is even better. I have a mate that is very much an XBOX fan, and we play it quite a lot, and I have to say I love it. However, I would never leave my precious Nintendo.
so you're saying that people do it to defend their judgement and therefore, intelligence. anyone have a different idea?

Also I would like to point out in Fan boys, it's also a possible fact that deep in their seeded minds they perhaps even think that the other consoles are cool aswell, one who fears to admit it or not.

that's a good point.fanboys don't want to contradict what they have said in the past.
Going on the above, I am a 'settled' gamer, and to be honest it will probably stay that way.
I'm a settled gamer, but my roots go back to Liberalism.

Actually it was the GREYSTATION POO..... if I remember correctly!
i think that tempo has said exactly what we would all say!
3)The liberal gamer: Very much the mature and well bread speicimen, this type of gamer understands that Halo is one of the best games ever, ICO in innovation and pure beauty and that Metriod Prime is Nintendo at their blinding best. thats me! i have all three in my house ( although the ps2 is my brothers)
Back to the topic, people insult other people's consoles because they are insecure, and, as tempo stated, thy want to reassure themselves that the decision they made was the right one. That's what I think, anyway...
Nice that you lot all agree with me!
Anyhoo, the fact is that gaming always has had strong rivalries between the formats, one reason could be that there are only ever two or three. This way you get three sets of gamers, all with different likes and dislikes, the sheer concentaration of pation of the console you think is best grows as your mates insult the console. Its like in the music industry, people are ridiculed because of different tastes, pretty sad really isn't it. So people are also so pationate because of the competition between the formats that has exsisted for years.
people do it because the things they buy give them their identity and this is what they are protective of....
its all in the mind!
Yeah but thats not a reason to slate other consoles. I feel its just because they know their console is not great so to make it feel good they need to make the other consoles look bad.
Id be a liberal or settled guy. I have GC and PS2. wouldnt mind an xbox but am not really bothered about getting it even though it is an ok console.
Its simple really. People like to insult other consoles because we all like to fight. its the same with all sports, politics and having wars. Humans are naturally volatile and any excuse to start a fight many will. Its also a classic playground scenario "mines better than yours". people alwyas have to be better than others.
Thats the way life is.
exactly Banneroonie, couldn't agree more
ok, heres the real reason
people buy the consoles, then, if they dont enjoy it, they ask Mum or Dad for another or a trade in.
They dont have enough money and there is no way they are getting another
So they decide, if i cant get one, ill pretend i enjoy my console and goes into super fanoby "i hate all other consoles mode"
simple really, if they cant have one. they hate it
Hey James isnt that bascally what I said?
That's what a lot of people have said!
)The settled gamer: The gamer who sticks with a format, whilst respecting the fact that people will buy into different consoles. They know that there a good games to be had for the multi format gamer, but they are happy how they are thanks
Thats difintly me.
I stick with ninty, but dont diss other consoles (much )
Nuff said
hmm, i'd be number 5 too...
but, i'd hapily buy another console if it had as many games as the GC... i have an unused PS2, got the good games, completed em, no more comming out...
but i s'pose i am a nintendo zealot.. i've had every console and handheld since the nes... and they're all still in my atttick
keep on topic. maybe there should be an over-complicated sub-topic system that everyone but me can figure out how to use...
Sounds quite good Naughty........
