Last week it got Metroid and Kid Icarus. Perhaps 2 of the best NES games, imo. I'm fed up of seeing people complain about the VC, they release them in small bursts so that the lesser-known games get more sales. If they released a ton of Mario, Zelda, etc. on the eShop.. the more obscure titles will be "hidden" from people who aren't sure those games exist.

I'll admit the Wii U VC lineup does have quite a few lacklustre titles and it would be nice to see some more NES/SNES gems on there, not even mentioning N64, GC and GBA. I personally can't wait for GameCube games to be released on the eShop, but looking at the VC lineup right now isn't exactly going to make me lose sleep.

lol

Do you work for Nintendo?

The VC, in Europe and worldwide, is shit.

I say this mostly because even when the Wii was in its first year people thought it was getting VC games too slowly, and that was far quicker than this. It would get like 3 or 4 random NES games with the occasional N64 game, as well as lots of Turbografx and MD games every single week. Never in the Wii's first year did we have so many totally empty weeks. Where's the non-Nintendo VC games? A couple of Capcom titles doesn't cut it.

And, GC VC was never confirmed, I'll be surprised if it happened at all.

No need to be so condescending jesus christ.

I'm just tired of people sticking up for Nintendo when they handle things like the VC so terribly. They make great games, but goddamn, they are handling so much in the worst possible way. How people can say "it's fine" for the VC is beyond me.

Agreed, their handling of the VC has helped contribute to the Wii U's software issues.  Had they released even a quarter of the Wii's VC library in the first 6 months of the Wii U, they'd have had a lot more people excited about their system.  While I appreciate the new features of the VC releases (such as almost fully re-mapable controls), the slowness of their releases reveals underlying issues.  They don't have enough programmers (which they've admitted they under estimated for projects), they aren't totally understanding their market (their prices are steep for a single system release, having it cross platform would be nice, I still think they are asking Wii users too much to upgrade their VC titles), and that they are focused on "Disneyfying" their software: making it trickle out as to keep its value based on incremental re-releases and scarcity hype.

I rarely feel this way, but on games pre-gamecube, Nintendo is asking too much money for the limits on usage.  If they opened them up for cross-play then the price is more reasonable.  If they dropped the price by ~50% then the limit makes more sense.  But the lack of releases is not a good idea.  It's what fuels things like the Ouya (most people were excited about emulation of games that should be cheap on the VC) and piracy/emulation in the first place.

^ Absolutely. The whole "trickle them out so other games don't get overlooked" is a pathetic excuse. We've had to put up with this BS for the Wii, and now it's happening with the 3DS AND Wii U. And of course, with the Wii U's constant games drought, it makes even more sense to open up a hell of a lot more VC games on the system. Yes, people want proper Wii U games, but at least a larger amount of VC games could help tie people over a lot better.

Can't agree more on the prices too. Lack of cross-buy and the prices in general of these old digital games from the 80s and 90s is beyond a joke. I just can't believe what I'm seeing when it comes to the VC.

Also haven't seen any official confirmation of GC games coming to VC. There may have been something a hell of a long time ago from somebody that hinted it, but absolutely nothing has been said of it since then. No mention of the console in future announcements or presentations and no GameCube logos when showing what's coming in the future. They showed GBA and have been open about that one still coming, but no talk of the GC at all. With absolutely no date on the line for any GC games for VC, you can't expect us to try and get excited about it. Not only are we suffering a Wii U games drought, we're in a constant VC games drought.

Agreed totally, I've said before that the VC has possibly the biggest potential of any digital games system, no developer has console and game history as wealthy and long as Nintendo's, what if the VC were really what we all imagined it to be? A treasure trove of lost classics, instantly available to everyone who searches for it and playable permanently in your growing collection of digital classics that'll remain with you for as long as Nintendo make consoles. That's what I was expecting when VC was first announced.

Many years later, a lot of those lost classics are still lost. So much wasted potential.. maybe it's just me, but the VC system is the one thing I really can't defend Nintendo on.

At least the Wii's VC library was pretty extensive by the end of the Wii's life, but jesus all of that is gone now and essentially reset to zero with the Wii U, at this rate it'll never even get close to the Wii's VC library. Ridiculous.

Just because I'm not an impatient person who complains about every little thing Nintendo do, makes me seem like I work for them? What utter crap. I know Nintendo have made some bad decisions, but to me the VC on Wii U is just average. You've got to remember, not everyone's played these games. Some people could've started gaming with the Wii U and want to try out some of these games. The slow trickle is, like I said, because Nintendo wants to gain revenue from each and every VC release and I don't blame them.

I guarantee that even if Nintendo were to release a tonne of awesome games on the VC, people would be complaining that there's too much available and they can't afford them all. I never got to play the Oracle games on GBC due to not having the money to buy one and due to my GBA getting stolen. Nintendo released them on the 3DS VC and I'm ecstatic to play them.

Honestly, people complain too much, games will come. You've still got a bunch of retail games to look forward to and those are new games. But, the last time I checked, the Wii U VC had Mega Man 1-4, Super Mario World, Kirby games, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, Metroid, Kid Icarus and Donkey Kong. That isn't terrible to me, but I guess my opinion doesn't matter. Smilie

EDIT: I hope this post doesn't sound like I undervalue anyone's opinion, because I don't. I'm just sick and tired of seeing people complaining about the same things.

Did I need to add sarcasm tags to that bit? There are very few people that are content with what the VC offers, that's why I said that. It's pretty unusual to see someone think the way Nintendo handles the VC is fine.

What? "Let's not release games because people can't afford them all!"

I never got to play the Oracle games on GBC due to not having the money to buy one and due to my GBA getting stolen. Nintendo released them on the 3DS VC and I'm ecstatic to play them.
Isn't that the point we're getting at? They need to actually release more games so that people who missed out on them can play them. And I'm not talking about waiting and hoping they release some 2 years down the line.

That isn't terrible to me, but I guess my opinion doesn't matter.
It's just a very unusual opinion. You're definitely in the minority.

I'm just sick and tired of seeing people complaining about the same things.
All within good reason. We have a very good reason to complain about the VC.

In other news.. Earthbound came out. Surprise? Smilie
