That's on 3G isn't it, and isn't it, statelite and different then wifi?

There are 3 ways to download things for iOS. As has been said above, it can be either 3G or Wi-Fi. Everything over 20Mb (and there quite a lot of things that are) has to be downloaded over Wi-Fi direct to the phone. You can also download through iTunes itself.

Apple are trying to unify things a bit now with Game Centre, which functions somewhat like Live, and has achievements et al.

There are numerous full games, as well as ports of PS1/PS2 games.

the reason for all the little games on the store is simply that Apple allows anyone to develop for iPhone for a small fee, and take a cut of the sales of their apps. The development tools themselves are intuitive and simple to use.

Thank you, for explaining it.

Nintendo may have taken the ideas from the industry, sure. But they're often the first to apply them to gaming in a serious way. That's what Nintendo does. They take existing technology and they innovate with it when it comes to gaming applications.

...and then Sony sees what Nintendo does and decides to put it on their systems too.

I agree with this. Sony have stolen Nintendo's ideas ever since they started making consoles. I mean, if it wasn't for Nintendo they probably wouldn't even have made the PlayStation. I don't think I'll ever be buying a Sony console.. they really don't appeal to me.

Just been unveiled;

Glad discs are gone, but dunno how this is gonna be backwards compatible with the non-psn PSP1 stuff. :/

Not yet announced is price or battery life; my guess is both will be crap. Smilie

Sounds pretty good, but I'll stick with the 3DS as I hate the quality of Sony handhelds. :/ That and, I've never really been a huge Sony fan and I don't think that is changing anytime soon.

It's pretty much what I expected it to be.

They've taken a few ideas off Nintendo, like the new flash card media and the two screens, but have also added features the 3DS doesn't have. The OLED screen will look very nice and should help improve battery life by a lot, but if the system is nearly as powerful as a PS3, then I guess it could still have pretty bad battery life.

At the end of the day though, it comes down to games for me and also price. I don't think the PSP2 will offer me much, game wise, so I'll stick with the 3DS (once the next model comes out).

The NGP (Next Generation Portable) name is just trash, I already find it annoying and pretentious. Here's a "cool" concept trailer below for the system.

Why do Sony's adverts always seem stupidly pretentious?

It's looking like a good device, but sony need to bring this under the price point of the PS3. I can also see the underside touch pad being a bit of a pain to use, its like they are trying to do two screens without copying Nintendo. I'll hold judgement on this console however until I see more of it as well as the power.

Uncharted on psp2? Awesome!

Nintendo Network ID: LKR000               PSN: LKR000
3DS: 1246-8696-120                              GT: LKR101

Most worried about backward compatibility. Depending on how awful the battery life is, I'll probably buy one on launch, it sounds nice.

Will post more thoughts later I suppose.

Think it's confirmed you can bring all your PS1 PSN downloads over to it.

Looks like a solid system, and to have PS3 quality graphics on a portable will be amazing. Uncharted portable is very appealing.

Better yet, Dissidia 3 will most likely be on this thing (even though I would love a PS3 version).

Guessing it's gonna be pretty expensive though. But certainly looks good. And at long last, dual analog sticks on a portable console.

It looks amazing from a technical standpoint. I read that it can run Metal Gear Solid 4, which is amazing for a portable machine. It's a bit bulky, but I'll probably get one near the end of it's life time when it's cheap and there have been revisions. I'll need any MGS that come out on it too.

But, to be honest, it's falling into the same pitfalls as the original PSP. It's trying to make home gaming portable, and not treating them as separate entities.

For something that is supposed to be portable, which to me is something I would want to put in my pocket, the NGP is even bigger than the PSP-1000 and those sticks look like they will be a nuisance in a pocket. The way a person has to hold the system when not using the back touch panel looks uncomfortable. The touch screen is a neat idea and the screen itself looks crisp. Not sure if I like the new UI but I expect it to be better than the XMB. Motion controls are good if only to add more features and I am glad to see UMD's gone, though snubbing the UMD faithful again is going to cause friction. The graphics look great, if a tad early at this point. Battery life will probably be equal to the 3DS which is fine with me. My two biggest complaints are this: the price of the system/games and the concept. This thing is going to be $300+ which I am not willing to shell out and the games will be at least $50; I would not be surprised to see games be $60. Second is the concept of this. It is another PSP with better graphics. There is no real hook for me to get this system early. Pixels and shaders are great, but I can get a 3DS and still play great looking games. Plus I'm tired of Call of Duty and tired of seeing Epic trot Unreal Engine 3 tech demos. But we'll see how this does in the long run.

Pretty much what I thought.

Also since the games are on cartridges wouldn't that raise the prices of the games by a lot? PS3 games are huge, at least 10gig. I'm expecting at least £50 per game. >_<

I just watched the trailer of the NGP(?). Pretentious really is the right word for that trailer. Just like the "It only does everything" for the PS3(To me, at least). See, here's the difference. Some people may act like the 3DS is the next best thing since sliced bread but at least Nintendo doesn't. Sony, on the other hand, just goes way overboard here and acts like their new portable will change life or whatever.

They can act like that if they somehow manage to create a real virtual reality console, you know, like dreaming you're actually in the game and fighting stuff as I do all the time. Smilie Oh well, guess that's their way of doing things. It'll get back to them sooner or later. Karma is such a nice thing, you know.

From what we can tell right now, it's going to be damn expensive. Battery life, I have no idea how much energy OLED screens save but with the tech they're going to have in them it likely won't be anything special, or even plain suck.

Anyways, it's obviously a desperate attempt on Sony's part to steal some of the 3DS' thunder. Will it work? Who knows, it's too early to judge. To me it just seems like Sony is yet again trying to put as much high-tech into their portable as possible, being way ahead of time yet again which will probably be reflected in the price of their system. Oh and I'd like to see some samples of games too, I really didn't know what the hell was going on in that trailer.Smilie

Yeah, how are they possibly going to fit MGS4 on it? If it truly made use of a dual layer Blu Ray disk, then it's at least 25 gigs, possibly 50 gigs.

They've announced tha the battery life should be about the same as the PSP-3000 so 3-5 hours. Considering the tech in this, I'm suprised it's that good. Same as the 3DS. Smilie

I'm really happy with the PSP2. I thought Sony was gonna simple make a PSP with better graphics and nothing else but it looks like they've gone all out!

Still, with all this tech comes price...

Yeh but surely things like resolution and sound quality are all going to be a step down from the PS3? Another easy way is to chuck away the odd cut scene.

I think someone checked and it was 33GB of data on the MGS4 disc. But it had uncompressed audio, and high res texture files.

The cut scenes were all in game engine if I recall, so not as much space as FMV. Although the final feature length scene might not work on a handheld

Anyway, had a bit more thought on the system. The backlash has been weird really, loads of disappointment, I can understand disappointment in the battery life and inevitably the price, but it's great they're going with cartridges this time around.

I'm still annoyed it won't have a UMD slot.
Plus, people keep complaining about the touch pad and such. Why? There's probably a good reason Sony put it on the back of the system.

In any case, I do hope the PSP2 gets some decent exclusives and doesn't end up just being a handheld PS3. The console's power is impressive nonetheless.

I'll wait to hear more on games and pricing before I think about how soon I want one I guess?

I hope Square don't announce yet another Kingdom Hearts spin-off. I just want KH3 so we can end the Xenohart Saga. Smilie

The problem for me is that they have two touch interfaces, and one that might interfere with normal play, i.e. holding the console and not say, accidentally moving your fingers and throwing yourself off a cliff a la Uncharted. I think the one on the front is fine, the back one isn't needed as such due to the dual analogue sticks (Fina-fucking-ly) as well as the powerhouse.

My two cents on games such as MGS4 coming to the platform, the resolution will be 960x544, whereas the PS3 is outputting at the 720p/1080p (1280x720/1280x1080 (figs in 4:3 aspect)) so there is a huge reduction in what is needed on screen and therefore the graphical power needed, and since a lot of cut scenes run on the engine it frees up a considerable amount of space, you are effectively halving what needs to be done by the processors.

Looks like more of the same. I'm intrigued by the GPS function though. The Gizmondo had a game in development back in the day called Colors that apparently changed based on your location. I don't think it ever came out, but the concept of having GPS change the gameplay was intriguing. I wonder if Sony has any plans for that.

Is there anything you say positive about something that isn't Nintendo or does all your negativity never reach Nintendo.

I don't think their edge was that their system was "life changing" I personally like the games and the way the system is. A much better improvement over the PSP and the dual analog sticks are really cool. Of course, if you ask me, I say we should just go back to the GBC. Pokemon was too awesome to forget.

3DS will have it's flaws and NGP will have it's flaws. We shall just see what will happen. I'm not giving anyone an edge until I see both the systems for myself. Don't treat it like Nintendo has this portable race in the bag.

Mario, Mega Man and Rayman FTW!!!

There are 3 more KH games to come out before KHIII, two of those are Dream Drop Distance and Birth by Sleep 2.

They do though.

The DS' brand power is massive; the PSP pretty much can't touch it, especially with all the gimmicks the DS brand has.

Whoa, don't get too worked up right there, my point mainly was that I didn't like the way they presented it in that trailer. The other things like price and battery life are valid concerns if you look at the tech they're cramming into the NGP which is way above what the 3DS is boasting.

From a business standpoint, it's obvious that the 3DS has this portable race in the bag. The DS is immensely popular and 3D has a huge mass appeal as well. Combine those two and you have a portable that will sell like hotcakes, maybe even more than the original DS did back then.

The DS' brand power is massive; the PSP pretty much can't touch it, especially with all the gimmicks the DS brand has.

Maybe, but I'd also consider the PSP to have brand power- it's sold over 60 million (worldwide), which is a lot! And the PSP2 does have a few gimmicks, like its rear touch panel, which I think is unique. Looking over the tech specs, it really seems like they decided to cram in "everything": cameras, motion sensors, cell networking, GPS, OLED screen, etc. There may be only one 2D screen, but I'd say there's marketable gimmicks galore!

The touch panel should be cool, if only because it'll allow emulation of a DualShock's R2/L2 triggers, which (along with the dual sticks) will allow perfect ports of PS1/2/3 games!

...But of course I'm also lusting after the 3DS. Isn't 2011 going to be a fantastic year?
