- What do you think about remakes or reimaginings?
There a bit hit and miss, they can shit all over your memories or allow you to get to know a game with out having to go back to awful graphics or crappy out of date game play.
Remakes that I have played recently that I loved:
FFIV DS
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Monkey Island Special Editions
Klonoa on the Wii
Twin Snakes
So yeah I'm a fan but there is a danger of them messing it up bad!
Think that Rocket Night on Arcade was a bit flaky and rubbish apparently.
- Which series' have gotten stronger or weaker over the last 20 years or so?
Definitely Sonic, he has had a good run on the handhelds as he stuck to 2D, even if the Rush games a fairly drastic departure, I still found them alot of fun.
I just can seem to enjoy 3D sonic games, there too awkward to controle for me and thats just not something I associate with sonic.
Maybe Colors will finally provide a 3D sonic game I can like?
Final Fantasy seems to have gone way down hill, tere was a time that I would never have belived I would not go out day 1 to get a Final Fantasy but I still have not yet played XIII ( waiting for it to become bargain bin material)
Bomberman while it still has the great core battle mode gameplay has had it's single player eroded away over the years. No one wants to buy a £35 bomberman game but developers don't want to spend that much on making a complete bomberman game on downloadable services.
I know most people do't really care about the single player modes in the games but they where a fun distraction when you tired of the multiplayer.
Monkey Ball has kind of deteriorated pretty poorly from a pretty major party game in obscurity.
Viewtful Joe kind of fizzled out which was a bit sad, would love to see a HD version of that franchise.
Can't really think on anything thats got stronger, I mean Mario has stayed pretty consistant, always putting out a good game but dunno if I would call that getting stronger, just consistant.
Halo has definitly improved in each iteration, the multiplayer features from 1 to 2 where huge with online play, from 2 to 3 was big with the replay features, forge and what not.
Never been a fan of GTA but it's definitely always 1uped it's last iteration and provided something new or taking advantage of new tech to make a engaging experience.
- Have you tried a "retro" game people seem to love so much? What were your own views on your experience?
SUPER METROID | SNES
Playing Super Metroid right not, it's pretty good so far, although the powerups just seemed to be handed to you withough much of a fight, the bosses are kind of easy as well compared to Fusion.
Controles are pretty clunky in comparison to fusion, L and R for aiming the arm cannon is weird.
Wall jumps are a fucking nightmare at times.
It's a great game but Fusion is definitely the better game imo, don't understand the hate for it.
ALUNDRA | PSX
Tried to get into Alundra, heard a lot of people say it was a "Zelda Killer" or at the very least you would enjoy it if you liked Zelda.
Played it for about 8 hours but the sparse save points was a big issue for me compared to Zeldas save anywhere feature, the jumping mechanics where pretty poor as well.
Had areas where you could miss items and never get them again, thats poor level design in my opinion.
The story seemed a bit more fully fledged than a traditional Zelda but not enough to keep me playing.
Parasite Eve | PSX
Actually really enjoyed this basically ResidentEvil/DinoCrisis RPG except not really scary at all, thanks to the rather cheesy music that play during fights!
Cheesy silly story as well but enjoyable, got a FF8 vibe from the graphics as it uses the same engine.
Would have loved to have got this game when I was 12!
