Horray! he\'s gone from horrednus and unplayable to slightly above average. Well done Sonic.

Sonic\'s only \"unplayable\" game is Sonic 2006. Please play Unleashed\'s daytime stages before you call it \"slightly above average\" kthx

The demo of Unleashed is on Live now - it just has one of the classic/daytime stages, and it's flipping amazing! Smilie

I'd like to try out a 'hog stage before I buy, but if I can find Unleashed for cheap (saw it somewhere for £20) then I think I'll give it a try! Smilie

Was wondering when the demo would finally hit. The werehog stages are alright, but if it's any consolation, you're only forced through one werehog stage per world in the 360 version, which is 9 (I think). Act 2 and 3 for both day and night are optional, so you'll want to play the Daytimne acts. Smilie Some of the Act 2s and 3s are nothing special but they're still fun.

I'm sure there good lots of the reviews say so but but to ignore the rest of the faults and call it amazing and say sonic is back? Nope it dosn't work like that.

Noone's ignoring the faults, but they're not big faults at all. As far as game breaking glitches go, the game is flawless, the only problem for most players are the dull werehog stages.

Saying "Sonic is back" may be taking it too far, but the daytime stages are amazing, and well above what we've come to expect from 3D Sonics. Slightly above average? Most players wouldn't agree with you there.

Yeah thats the problem most peoples expectations are so low anything decent in a sonic game these days and people cream their pants.

Please just play the damn game or don't expect people to listen to your opinion.

Besides 2D Sonic games have been going great even through these years of average 3D games, so Sonic fans are still quenched despite the average 3D games.

Besides, I find it hard to believe how everyone thinks Sonic had died after just 2 crap games. Heroes got pretty good reviews.

Why not? Yet more downright disregard for the perfectly decent WiiS2 version, especially since there are no proper opinions for the 360 version yet.

The 360 version looks better and has more daytime levels. It's not a hard choice to make. Saying that, the combo system on the Wii is kinda neat, but I'd take the extra levels over it without a doubt. The level design is also much better from what I've seen on videos.

I made that comment before I knew of the Day:Night ratios, and I now concede that the 360 version is easily better.

Still, I was disappointed with people skipping to the 360 version without knowing enough about either version. About the stage design, I'll have to try it for myself but I've heard the day stages feel rather empty on the Wii version, but the better night time stages are what many reviewers think makes it better than the 360 version.

I just played the demo there a few time, just as I had feared even more on rails than Rush and the controles are still wonky as ever when running forward (when in behind view).

It's not on rails at all, linear may be the word you're looking for. Also there is definitely a learning curve for the controls, as I didn't like them at all at first, but you definitely get used to the "wonkyness", and it gives you a greater sense of real momentum than before, since before you've been able to make awkward sudden turns from full speed, so it definitely seems more steady than it has been in the past.

Ugh it's just depressing, Sonic is like the paralympics he gets a free pass from fans and a pat on the back for trying hard, when everyone knows he is still a bit crap.

Well I haven't really liked any Sonic games and I really like Unleashed so....

I disagree. I concede that Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic 2006 are shit despite liking them. I honestly can't see much wrong with the daytime stages in Unleashed, and if people just said what they didn't like about the daytime stages I may be able to help them enjoy it more or try to understand why they may not like it, or maybe the game's just not for them.

Overall the daytime stages have been acclaimed across the board, and the average werehog gameplay has dragged it down.

And I reiterate my previous point about Sonic only having a couple of crap games, among dozens of good to great titles. People really overexaggerate about how crap Sonic is.

Conversely I did like sonic games and I don't really like them now so...?

I was just pointing out that it's not only Sonic fans who are only allowed to enjoy Unleashed.

Well it does seem that the majority are die hard fans and young children these days that play sonic.
It's just a another dissapointment for me though and really there does seem to be better options out there than picking from Sonic Unleashed or Castlevania Judgment.

Yeah, like Fable 2, GoW2, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Prince of Persia....I could go on ;-Smilie

Sonic Unleashed was the #1 most popular game on GameSpot a couple of days ago, and it's had great sales so far. It's attracted quite a lot of attention.

For a 3D Sonic I think it exceeded expectations for many fans, to be honest there were times I was expecting another Sonic 2006. Both made by Sonic Team Japan afterall, so I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

Well if your speaking strictly on wii I would still recommend de blob I mean you can get it for £18 on play.com!

But yes lots of other games that too pick from at the moment rather than paying full price for Sonic, wait till it\'s half price I say considering only half the game is decent.

You can buy it for like £20. I can\'t remember where. Someone posted in the Biggest and Best Game Deals topic.

edit: http://www.gamestation.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=20092 thar she blows, courtesy of Marzy.

Fair enough. You can get the Wii version for £30 most places, and GameStation had both versions for just under £20 a week or so ago (dunno if it\'s still on) EDIT: Oh cool, still there Smilie Excellent deal. (Although I bought the 360 version for £30 on launch day where many places were still selling it for £45)

I can\'t speak for or defend the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed (I hopefully will be able to soon Smilie) so for Wii games I\'d get something else. If you don\'t have it yet try to get Okami *points to link in sig*

I\'m also going get deBlob sometime soon.

£20 at Gamestation you say.

This intrigues me...

Tom Barry [ Reviewer - Editor - Resident Sim-Racer @ Cubed3.com ]

£20 is good enough for me. Smilie Will get the 360 version.

Played the demo a couple of times yesterday but wasn't too impressed. Seemed too fast. There were a couple of points where you literally run into spikes before you even see them. I'm sure I'll like it though being a Sonic fan. (I enjoyed Shadow Smilie)

I enjoyed Shadow and '06 despite them being shit. Probably my biggest complaints about the Daytime play in Unleashed is not being able to see what's coming up quick enough, including ducking to get under walls with B. I thought it'd be impossible to play well like this, but the game does get more fun the more times you play through a stage. As you get more into the game you'll definitely be replaying stages for fun, and you'll learn the stage layouts and when to take which direction etc. All part of the experience IMO Smilie
