360 version:

Looks awesome to me. I have already heard a few derisory comments which are all too easy to come out with.. Sonic is a game you really have to be in control to feel the playability. This may not be a truly fantastic Sonic, (the Warehog levels I think may prevent it from reaching that status) but none the less I think it will be a fun game. One that scores well and sees a return to form. I sincerely hope after this game Sonic Team quit with these crappy ideas, that negatively impact the perception of what looks like a very fun game.

Thoughts?

Really hyped for it at the moment... The 2D platforming doesn't look as precise as the 2D games, but it's still looking good. I also think the Werehog bits will be decent, and not as bad as Shadow.

Sonic Team don't listen to fans. The next Sonic game will probably ruin this final sanctuary of 3D Sonic OKness by either
1) Not bothering (2006)
2) Adding waaay too many characters (Heroes)
3) Forcing in weird clunky mechanic like vehicles or guns. (Shadow)

Looks great though I hope there aren't many bits like the part in the video with the fire breathing enemy. Seemed like it required way to much accuracy that would just be annoying rather than fun.

Looks rather good, I have to admit. Although I still hate the look of the warehog sections. I think as long as it's half decent it'll be a start.

After years and years of less than average games, we can't expect Sonic Team turn it around and produce a worthy 3D (or not) successor in one title.

Looks great, I really like how the game goes from 3d to 2d and back again almost seemlessly. I notice they've taken various parts from SatSR like the quick step and stuff, good to see that some of the gameplay mechanics have made it over!

I think i'll take a look at this when it comes out been wanting to play a new sonic game for a while and hopefully this can be the return to form that we've all been looking for!

PS2 Version.

That\'s the Wii version. Doesn\'t look too bad, but looks like there\'s something missing. No enemies, platforms to jump around. A bit lifeless really.Smilie

That same \"rrruuuuah\" grunt seems incredibly irritating too

I should have known Smilie I think you really need to be in control of the game to assess how fun it is. It does look very on the rail-sy.

The 360 version looks great though.

Trailers look great for both versions, but when you see gameplay footage like that played out you see how kinda empty it looks Smilie

As usual it looks like it'll be a game that is only fun after learning the complete level by heart. All sonic games are frustrating since after being in a nice speedy flow if you will for 5 seconds you'll come to a complete stop because you have to crawl under something which immediately drains the fun you were having.

If you do persist and learn to time all jumps etc perfectly, then it's a nice graphical showcase and quite exhilirating I think. I just can never be bothered. The contrast in speed is just way too high to not get irritated every 5 seconds.

Gahhh.. I really can't stop watching the Wii trailers without thinking, "Man, did this version get noticeably gimped."

I know it was to be expected, but, seriously, just look.

X360/PS3 version:

Wii version:

Also, whoever's decision it was to use the "lose rings noise" whenever Sonic picks up rings in the first trailer should be slapped, because IT IS SO FUCKING ANNOYING.

To tell you the truth, I'm really impressed with what they've done with the Wii version. I think it's one of the best looking Wii games.

Even though the PS360 version looks so much more amazing by comparison, I do think it's one of the best looking PS360 games too. Smilie

Maaaaan. Doooo waaaaant.

That, and the beginning scene makes me wonder why Sega doesn't just quit the game industry business and start making animated movies.

Sega's gotten to Square Enix levels of animation quality.

Looks like Sonic to me. I still have hope for this game, stupid as that may be.

Yeah the CGI has been the strong point of the Sonic series for a long time now.

Apparantly SEGA are releasing a short movie called Night of the Werehog, but I think that was just a teaser video to promote the game. I love how Sonic has gone back down the cartoony route with this one. The game is just full of charm and attitude Smilie

I saw that teaser vid. I somehow got a One Piece vibe from the fight scene. ^^

I love that the human characters are not realistic anymore like they were in Sonic 2006. Sonic doesn't look quite so out of place when the humans are cartoon like as well. Also, the music for this game is beautiful. Best in the series for a long time (and even 2006 had a good soundtrack).

I appreciate the blatant Star Wars homage in the CGI trailer as well. Smilie

I dunno, Sonic 2006 had a few great tracks but most of it was unmemorable.

I've loved the music for most Sonic games for a long time, I love Jun Senoue's music which is one of the reasons I'm so excited for Black Knight. But I think others may know what I mean when I say that some of the tracks in Unleashed almost have that "old Sonic" feel to them. They're strangely nostalgic and you feel like you know them, which is excellent.

And definitely agree about the humans. Sonic looks so much more like a place of this world than he ever did in Sonic 2006, but the fantastic visuals really bring him to life.

So let's just hope the gameplay matches up, at least a little bit, to how epic the graphics and music are. Smilie

Could be good, definately getting on release, but so far i might have to sell out and get the 360 version, the Wii version looks good...but i dunno, i just feel like it would be lackluster compared to the others!

Dimps are developing the daytime stages for the Wii version (the bit of the game everyone cares about) so I'd definitely hold out for reviews incase the Wii version turns out better. It wouldn't be too big a surprise.

The games out next week in the US aint it? Where are the reviews? Sega holding out? Smilie

No, I'm pretty sure the game's not out in US next week, as the website still has the Winter 2008 Placeholder. Why would they have that while the game is out next week? Because the game ISN'T out next week.

I'm starting to think Europe will get the game first, on the 28th.

I've been very excited with Unleashed with the trailers, but still think the levels (though nicely designed) seem a bit empty. Not sure what is, but Sonic doesn't need to be fast all the time - what the old style games had was balance.

Thats true, but then I guess thats why they have the slower nightime levels shame they couldn't try and have a balance of both in just the daytime levels.

I don't mind that aspect to be honest it's almost like a rythem game like guitar hero or elite beat agents in that respect.

Well this is looking a lot better than I was expecting. Smilie Shall most likely grab the 360 version in the future, assuming I have money lying around. Those trailers look awesome. Smilie

The only review score that has appeared so far is Nintendo Power's, which was an 8.0. Not a bad score, considering Secret Rings got 8.5. Smilie

Game is out in the US today says the official site (updated from Winter 2008) and Amazon US.
