All the Metroid Primes have shite box art. This is by far the worst though.

At least say you liked the title screen..? (in the first prime anyway)

{Guild}Ohmdal: But how did you get the poo inside of the box when the goat was sleeping on top of it?

Yes the title screen in the first was lovely, and the second one was quite a nice idea. And of course the games themselves were amazing.

What's NOT to like about Metroid Prime? It was about as close to perfection as games get.
MP1&2 were two of only a handful of GC games that were a completely different experience to anything you could get on PS2 or Xbox. Retro Studios is probably the most progressive decision, from a console games perspective (rather than business or handheld games), that Nintendo have made in a very, very long time. The only way they can follow it up is by getting a British studio of the same calibre, and by letting Retro produce original material after MP3.
The thing about Metroid Prime, is that it wasn't fun. To be honest, for me, it was boring. The first Metroid Prime I liked quite a bit, it remained mostly true to the 2D games, but I would never say it was one of my favourite games... I wouldn't even say it was incredible. Then MP2:E was, for me, super boring. Sure it looked nice & stuff, but walking around going to the same area again but in purple was really dull...
To me, it just felt like a single stick FPS.
In that case you need to play more FPS, because you have no idea what one is like. MP games are 90% problem solving and path finding, 10% making sure you don't get killed in the process.

I don't like FPS too much, my least favourite genre probably. I love Halo though. I don't like anything that makes me look from a first person view without a dual stick option.
Is one of the reasons I don't like Goldeneye, because that has a shit dual mode...
EDIT: MP is a game where you look out of someone's eyes & use one stick... for me that's it. I don't actually remember doing any puzzles that stuck in my mind during any of the Metroid Prime games, unless you count the Morph Ball sections.

It wasn't really puzzles, it was just working out how to get to places on your map and deciding whether you can actually do so without finding something else and coming back. The 'puzzles' were usually very basic little things that were usually immediately apparent how they were solved. That, shooting stuff to clear a path, and a bit of platforming, was the basic low level gameplay, it wasn't the over-riding thing you were thinking about.
Apparently a lot of the Retro people are Valve veterans... explains the quality somewhat.
Ooo and to Grumbler. That JRPG one was fantastic too.

Most of the high up people are from PC game backgrounds and the Turok Acclaim team. There's one designer who's listed as 'special thanks' in the original Half-life, but that's about all I can draw from Moby Games. The lead designer of MP is only credited for being Project Manager for Turok Rage Wars.
Looks like quite a few from there have left and gone to EA though.

Phew! I thought you'd went off the deep end Grumbles.

The music for Metroid Prime's file select screen was by far the best thing about the whole game. I could listen to that all day. The rest of the game was brilliant as well though. I really don't see how anyone could find it boring in the slightest... MP2 maybe, but even with MP2 you don't really realise how shit it is until you go back and play MP1 again.
It does seem really shit when you do that though...
I love the title screen for MP.
MP kept the feel of old Metroid games, IMO it's in a different league entirely from the other MP games.
MP2 feels a lot more like the old Metroids to me, MPs environments were much more earthly.
(Not saying it was better or worse because of this)
The menu screen for Metroid Prime 1 was amazing. I really liked it. The radial menu of MP2 was cool too, just not as good. I wonder what they have in store for MP3? Maybe instead of going through the insides of a Metroid, it could me a hologram of the Solar System... or something like that.

Agreed. Although I did like the Earthly feel a bit more. Tallon IV overwolrd made my jaw drop the first time I saw it.
I thought it was the complete opposite. Metroid's environments were always really organic I thought, which was completely ruined by MP2's 'METAL! PUT METAL ON EVERYTHING!!!' approach. Plus the dark world was simply a case of making everything Black and/or Purple, which was nothing like past Metroids either... Even the normal world looked incredibly dull and lifeless I thought though.
