AOL and Nintendo

I have AOL and a Linksys WAG354G Wireless router, works perfectly with Wi-Fi.

No complaints whatsoever, AOL are great for unlimited wireless broadband all round.

Never had to try the Dongle, though.

Good way to get wireless kit from AOL - threaten to leave/change ISP, and listen as you get offered freebies.

Only problem is they don't send you a receiver.

I've used the dongle with my AOL and it actually worked with my dial-up (after a bit of "modifications") so I think it should work fine with the dongle with PROPER internet

I'm hoping Tesco start throwing free things and a better connection speed when I request my MAC code, they are a stable ISP. Wait and see on that one.

Great router. Got the latest firmware from the Linksys site?

As for AOL, I remember some other members having some trouble. I think they made a seperate connection using the AOL login details. That way they could use Firefox/Opera/IE etc and not the WFC-blocking AOL browser.

Yeah i got AOL on Saturday and i have the NETGEAR modem/router but im havent used wireless on it, coz i connected it directly coz i dont have anything wireless! Anyway i havent had any problems so far everything works OK!!
By the way i ordered from the internet and i get one month free internet!

Was expecting a few responses ala that, we didn't even consider the discs as good coasters back in the day. Looks like I'm going to the dark side though :/

I use AOL. So long as you ignore the browser, it's great, good price for unlimited Internet. The problem with AOL and the Nintendo WiFi dongle is the AOL software, not the connection itself. When the software loads up, it also loads up some kind of firewall/protection software that I believe can't be disabled. This stays open the whole time that the AOL browser is opened and shuts off once the browser is gone too.

To get around it, you need to set up a new Internet connection in another browser, then log onto it using your AOL username and password. You're then connected to the Internet via AOL, but you don't need to use their dodgy software and can use the dongle freely. I think that's how it goes, I'd test for you but A) my computer is broken and I'm awaiting a new one and B) my dongle is broken because something in it snapped. You're best off with a router, anyway...not sure what one though, as I don't have one, I'm going to attempt with some external wireless dongle that isn't a Nintendo product when I get the shiny new machine.

I hope for my mental health that this won't be the case with the Wii. I will die if that doesn't connect.

If it doesn't connect with DS, the chances are that it will not be connecting with Wii either. Sorry.

You don't have to use their software, so all you're getting is a well-priced unlimited broadband package (the cheapest as far as I'm aware).

What do you people consider worth complaining about, I really can't see it?

Haven't used AOL in so long, no one really uses it in Australia anymore. My memories... aren't too fond though.

You don't need to use the AOL main browser. If you have a router it connects you automatically anyway without having to use the AOL software itself, if you don't have that there's a program called AOL Dialler. It's kinda like when you try to logon using just windows connection wizard thingy, the thing where you type password and username to logon without using anything else, it just looks more fancy.

AOL is good. It's not shit at all! Ive had it for a year and I havn't had one problem with it. Plus it's cheap and it's unlimted bandwith.

I would go over to AOL if I didn't need the program at all. I have used it once and it drove me nuts. I have a router so I don't see why I would need it.

If they all the registration crap online I may change to em.

Tiscali's service is shite but at least the internet works most of the time.
