I'm actually a little scared at what the man might do with a different controller interface like this, after seeing his previous bizarre games (though I've yet to play Odama - it's in the post as we speak). I hope for his sake's a microphone is included somewhere though, as he seems to love them so.

Woot woot!
Unfortunately it will be missunderstood by the half-arsed plebs at IGN and Gamespot, and then massacred by Edge and GamesTM for the sake of preserveing their contrived tough reputations. Shame on modern games journalism Smilie Smilie

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I'm still really uncertain about Odama, but I'll be sad if I end up agreeing with the reviews. I couldn't trust them though, I feel like it's one of those games I have to play before I can be sure if it's good or not - I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt after Seaman.

Oh please, Odama is a bad game, pure and simple. It might be innovative and clever, but nothing is well implemented and it just comes out as a bit of a mess. Admittedly, I'm yet to play the full finished version, but I shouldn't think it has moved on much from the near complete version I played last year.

Still, innovative and adventurous developers are always a good thing, so it will be interesting to see if he does anything good with the Revo.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

I don't understan all this talk of it being a 'mess', I think people must just be crap at it or not have played it enough. Only a couple of reviews I've read have arknowledged that despite its complexity, you always know what to do and it all feels very instinctive by level 3.

If you're the sort of gamer that hates difficult games, you're a crap gamer. If you're a reviewer who down-grades a game because you couldn't crack it in an afternoon, you're a shit reviewer. Odama is about practise and developing skill, not flying through hoops in an un-failable training mission.

I have to say the speech of soldiers looks messy, but I'm going to reserve judgement until I get it. Hopefully only a day or two now...

My blank English accent worked perfectly with the voice rec, I think it's just the fat, whiney american twerp reviewers that had a problem with it, as all the UK ones I've read seemed to think it was fine.

NGC gave it a bad review but said the voice recognition was alright, EDGE gave it a bad review but said the voice recognition left something to be desired.

You have to remember that it is voice recognition. Voice recognition can NEVER be perfect. Remember the robot-like pronunciation you had to use in Seaman? Odama doesn't require that, but you still have to speak VERY clearly, at a reasonable distance from the mic, with the mic volume adjusted accordingly. You also have to make sure you hold the button down correctly. With voice rec, you practise untill you get it right, THEN you start playing. This will ALWAYS be the case.

Sounds interesting! Very interesting!

Yeah, I use voice rec at work, it sucks, especially when you have a cold, breath heavy, there is loud background noise, or you get interrupted by a workmate, things can get annoying.
(computer says, no)

Just cause its innovative, doesnt mean its flawless.

Voice rec isn't innovative, it's been around for decades. there isn't very much innovation in Odama either, it's just a new idea for a game. People bounce that word around far too much I find.

I'm referring to my workplace's take on it, in theory it made sense, but its turned out to be impractical.

PS. Just cause its been around for a while, that doesnt mean somebody wont one day use it innovatively.
Innovation is an idea, not a paradigm shift.
