The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly features an interview with Nintendo President Satoru Iwata and in this interview Iwata-san mentions that Nintendo is looking into giving some of Nintendo's classic games visual makeovers.
"We are doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros, with the new technology," said Iwata. "The game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different; it's possible that with Revolution, we may be able to see the old games with new looks."
Nintendo has gone back to enhance the graphics of classic games in the past. In Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo, all four Super Mario Bros. games (including The Lost Levels) featured enhanced 2D visuals, with new sprites and art that made the games look very much like they're 16 bit sequels.
