I got it today. It's a brilliant game, and quite a remarkable improvement over it's predecessors, considering Pandora Tommoro's almost unchanged state from the original. The graphics are amazing. Ubisoft are really tapping the Xbox's graphical might, here. Bump mapping is used extensively, and brilliantly. Out in the rain? If you are, take a look at Sam- he's soaking wet. The rubber of his sneaking suit glistens with water running down it. As does his skin and weapons. Same goes for NPCs and the surroundings. Genius. Everything is modeled superbly, and there is some amazing terxture work. The lighting work is pure gold. All in all, some of the best graphics I've seen on a console to date, all running at 30fps, in full screen.

Just thought it was worth mentioning. The game is pretty damn good. The graphics have blown me away. The visuals on display here are easily on a par with RE4. In some areas, 'Chaos Theory excells over RE4. Bump mapping, texturing and lighting, to name a few.

NOTE: If this thread becomes an RE4 Vs 'Choas Theory, or GC Vs Xbox flame war, I will kill lots of people, and eat lots of newborn babies. Capiche?[/rant]

Smilie Well all know that the Xbox has the slight advantage.

I've been tinkering around on the original splinter cell on my PC. Think the series so far is pretty good. Shall be buying Chaos Theory soon.

My bro has the PC version and it looks good.
Visually its one up from PT, but I dont think its Resi4, although I imagine the Xbox version looks better.

The game itself appears much more interesting this time round too.

How anyone could compare both SC and RE4 is beyond me, they're totally different in concept.

I've been considering breaking my stance on not buying Splinter Cell games after I heard that the CT was going to have split screen co-op.

Bloody hell, I need to buy the first. I've been planning to get it for so long!

What about the game play though?

Really? I heard it as really good, a huge improvement over the first. Well, now that the best in the series is out they et it loose that the 2nd wasn't to spectacular at all.

This one definately looks like the best version, with best graphics on the Xbox etc. I think what really stands out is the amount of new tactics added in.

Edit: Good point Mason. I apologise, Oni. Smilie But still, comparing it then telling no-one to compare them is a little odd.

What do you expect when have just compared the two games to spite the people who like RE4? Pretty stupid...

I don't think it was said to spite anybody. Oni clearly likes RE4, you can see that from the RE4 PAL thread.

I might get this game when it comes to Gamecube. As somebody said, what's the gameplay like though? I've never played any of the other Splinter Cells, but I know they're supposed to be good - and this is supposedly better.

I really need to get my hands on a copy, even if it's just a rent for now. I don't have any money for the game at the moment, so I might sell on Pandora Tomorrow and the original Splinter Cell to get this one if it turns out to be all I expect.

The demo that came with last months (and repeated in this month's issue) OXM was bloody awesome. Very impressive, they seemed to have given the game a complete overhaul

This one definitley looks the business, but one thing worries me.

From Gamespot:

The GameCube version of the game is sadly missing the innovative four-player competitive mode featured in Chaos Theory (and its predecessor) for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2. And while that's the biggest omission, unfortunately it's just one of the numerous corners that have been cut to make Chaos Theory for the GameCube a mockery of its PC and Xbox counterparts. It's mostly similar to the half-baked PS2 version, but with no versus mode, clunkier controls, a useless Game Boy Advance connectivity feature, and a bunch of GameCube-exclusive glitches. Strictly on its own merits, this version is an altogether unimpressive action adventure that still smacks of being a watered-down port of a technically superior game. In other words, both GameCube owners and Splinter Cell fans deserve better than this.

And I could only get the GC version, it's stopping me getting it at full price. Maybe when it enters the pre owned sections of shops...

I don't understand how the Gamecube ends up being the system getting the short end of the stick when it comes to Splinter Cell. Surely when it comes to hardware, the PS2 should be recieving this sort of treatment, not the Cube?

Ubi Soft hate the 'Cube, I try and use their PR site to get Nintendo screens and they don't even list Chaos Theory for the 'Cube. They just really don't give a shit about us, mainly as we don't buy their games. But if they gave us games alongside the PS2 and XBox versions and gave us something to make up for no online gaming we would buy them. But they don't.

The PS2 has more users which Ubi Soft want to sell their shit to. They rightfully fuck us over as money is not made on the GC. At least we got this game, there was talk that it would not come to the GC.

Why should they give you something to make up for no online mode? It's not their fault that the GV version isn't online, it's Nintendo ruining your gaming, in that aspect. For it was they who chose to boycott online gaming altogether with the GameCube, not Ubisoft. Remember that.

I wanted to pick this up. Next on my games list......

Right, well I have Chaos Theory on the Xbox now. It didn't take much, all I have to do to is cook dinner three nights a week for the next two and clean up my room (which I had planned anyway) and they chipped in

They could still set up their own online system, SEGA did it with PSO. And why should they give us something to make up for it? Hmmm, let me think, maybe for GC only gamers. They had a whole team working on PC, XBox and PS2 versions individually and gave the GameCube the shaft. They worked specifically on other versions and said, let's fuck over GC only gamers. How hard would it be to port over online maps into the GC coop mode, or use a LAN option. There are many alternatives, online is not the only solution, it is ONLY Ubi Soft's fault. They know the GC has no online mode, so should compensate, and not just give us a stripped down game.

We've discussed the online thing to death, so lets not ressurect it dude, you know I know it, I know I know it, Ubi Soft know it, so that argument doesn't work here, they could have found alternatives but did not. I am happy we got the game anyway, but ignorance isn't an excuse, they gave us the finger and that is that.

I don't understand why they did it at all, I mean, with Pandora it was slightly understandable because of the Twin Snakes being released at the same time, but now that the whole scene has died down, this would have been the perfect time to swoop in and score a big one.

With the right marketing and the polish that the Xbox and PC version had, Ubi Soft could have bagged the entire genre space for themselves. No competition, a whole area of potential sales all for themselves. Shouldn't that guarantee a nice healthy profit?

The Xbox and PS2 both have their share of stealth/action games, while the Gamecube has been relatively quiet on that front ever since Metal Gear

Ubi tried to bring SC to GC, with extra bits eclusive to the GC version to make up for online. The orignal SC was delayed for GC because they added to it. There was a drop down menu
thingie that made things run smoother than the other versions. There was also GBA link-up. I think the graphics might've even been touched on a bit. But apparently, it sold better on PS2 and Xbox (just assumption. No sales figures).

I'll be getting this on Xbox eventually. I'm broke right now^_^
