Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) Reader Review

The Mario series from day one had always been destined for glory. From the day the plump plumber set foot on our TV screens back in the late '80s he has rarely disappointed. The orginal Super Mario Bros. on the NES was great. With touch tight controls, cutting edge graphics and gameplay that could give most Current Gen games a run for their money, it was gaming heaven. Then we had the much anticipated Super Mario Bros. 2 which was, in a nutshell, awful. Some 20 years on, we now know the truth...it wasn't a PROPER Mario Game. Then Nintendo tried to redeem themselves with Super Mario Bros. 3. With vastly improved visuals, even tighter controls and versatility that could put a Swiss Army Knife to shame, it succeded in doing so with flying colours. Every moment of this game is everything Super Mario Bros. 2 should have been. From the opening scence, to the 2D Boss Battles it is all sublime. For me, this is utter gaming Nirvana. Yhis game contains everything you could possibly want from a game; graphics, sound, replay value and it really does contain that X factor which Simon Cowell and co so desprately seek. This is truly Mario's 2D swansong for me with everything you could possibly need. To draw another comparative, it is everything The New Super Mario Bros. should have been...
