Review for Snake Pass on PC

Every year at EGX, the indie area is growing stronger and stronger, with this year being no exception. With a much larger Rezzed Zone, there were plenty more stations, plenty more games on show, and plenty of opportunity to get hands on with these innovative titles. Snake Pass was one of the best that the Cubed3 team managed to get some time with.

Snake Pass is based around a very simple concept of controlling a snake and its hummingbird friend as they explore a vibrant cartoonish environment, tracking down collectibles, called "Glimmers," and special Crystals. The Glimmers will be used in the main game to unlock extra levels and features while Crystals are the method of completing the level.

Controls were basic but satisfying; 'R' to move forward, and then use the analogue to sway just as a snake would in order to speed up. There were plenty of rocks and posts to slither over and under littering the environment, and by taking advantage of the snake's long body, it was possible to scale surfaces, wrapping around protrusions and folding the snake's body upon itself. When the obstacles seemed too much, the hummingbird friend helped out by lifting the snake's tail.

Final Thoughts

Snake Pass is the first original IP from Sumo Digital and Cubed3 can't wait to get its hands on the full version. This is a simple, charming, and absolutely enjoyable title. Snake Pass is hitting early next year on Steam and consoles.

You're a star! I'll definitely pick it up one way or another. I can't resist its charm! Almost seems like it could like something being refreshed from the 80s/90s. With this, Yooka Laylee and Mario Odessy glad to see Switch is getting its platformers.

Looking forward to this! It looks brilliant! Smilie

I'm really impressed with how they got the snake to move so fluently.
