Assassins sneak to the top

Following Nintendo taking the gong for best-selling single format title during the Christmas week, it is now time to see just what managed to grab the top spot in the final seven days of 2007 before the New Year steam-rolls in. And the winner by a hair's breadth is Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft, which drops just 7% in sales, keeping it ahead of Call of Duty 4 from Activision, which drops to No.3 following a 37% decline in sales. EA's FIFA 08 continues to prove a strong seller, missing out on the top spot by just 1,000 units, leaving the company with just one week in pole position on the All Formats Chart during the final eleven weeks of 2007. The Simpsons Game is down one to No.4 with a 24% slide, Need for Speed: ProStreet sticks at No.5, down 23% in sales, whilst retailer promotions help PES 2008 back into the Top 10, up seven to No.6 and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 holds steady at No.7 for the third week, falling 43% in sales.

In addition to this, More Brain Training (last week's biggest selling game in the UK) slips two to No.8, whilst its older brother falls to No.11, out of the Top 10 for the first time since nine weeks ago, having spent 34 weeks of the year in the Top 10 and an amazing 50 in the Top 20! Activision sees another of its games slide back into the top sector, with Guitar Hero III moving back up three to No.9, and Sega's The Golden Compass climbs one to land at No.10, leaving Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games to stutter out of the Top 40 completely due to severe stock shortages.

It is high time for a change to the UK Chart Highlights feature, and due to popular demand C3 will now be tabulating extracts from the Chart Track UK listings. To check out the full charts, though, it will still be required to head over to the official website.

I contributed towards FIFA 08 being second I'm afraid, picked up a copy of it on XBOX 360 t'other day. Naughty me...

Still amazing that Wii Play is doing so well and Brain Training proved to be a smash hit in the sales.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

We ever goan' see the GC/GBA charts again? Smilie

Rather dramatic change to the chart updates there...

due to popular demand

That's no fair, you clearly put a lot of effort into writing those. Smilie

It's a shame to see Mario Galaxy falling like it is... To think that not every Wii owner in the country owns it. My friend doesn't own it because he says he doesn't like Mario games. I'm ashamed... Smilie

Wow! Mario and Sonic dropped fast! I wonder if Nintendo/SEGA ever anticipated itwould do so well? Hurry up and get more stock in. Smilie

Oh thank god I can see the charts!! Yay!!!

I wonder if we'll ever see Metroid Prime 3 shoot back up, just like other games have done in the past? Link's Crossbow Training charts in the Wii Top 30 as well this week, for only the second time due to low stock...

Is RE: TUC still hard to find, by the way?

It's good to see Mario Galaxy holding on in the UK. No.10 on the Individual Top 40 Chart is still impressive!
