Nintendo News | Guitar Hero III Wii Detailed

By Jorge Ba-oh 23.05.2007 25

After a previous general announcement, Activision have revealed a little extra about the cross-platform third Guitar Hero as the fret-licking, explosive musical game heads to a Nintendo format for the first time to unleash their inner rock skills on the Wii.

Players will experience a wealth of new tracks spanning newly added features and modes. Guitar Hero III features a new multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, boss battles, exclusive unlock able content and authentic rock venues to jam inside. An online mode allows players to go head-to-head worldwide in a bid to gain legendary rock status. Guitarists can also download fresh content online on multiple platforms to add to a growing list of fine music. Activision have secured partnership with major and independent labels to bring an extensive catalogue to the Wii, with original recordings for even greater authenticity.

Those worried about wires can rejoice: wireless guitars will be available for each platform with exclusive Gibson-inspired guitars containing fresh removable faceplates and some funky new button colour designs.

The initial list of tracks include:

  • Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
  • Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
  • Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
  • The Metal (by Tenacious D)
  • My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
  • Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
  • Rock And Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
  • School's Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
  • Slow Ride (as made famous by Fog Hat)
  • Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
  • Barracuda (as made famous by Heart)

"The development team at Neversoft has been exceptional, and we've been able to incorporate a host of fresh new online and multi-player game play modes, along with exciting content into this version of Guitar Hero that our fans have been asking for. Also, many of the top bands and songs we've tried to get in the past are now on board, and we've definitely got some giant aces in the hole to say the least. In addition, offering a new line of Gibson wireless guitars for each platform is going to truly add to the authentic rock star experience like no other."
Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane.

    Sound great but where's AC/DC?

There are some good tracks there, but to hell with that i wanna see the Guitar!. I hope the Wii will have it's own and that it will have a ext plug for future add ons.

Those downladable tracks had better be of a reasonable price otherwise it will suck just as much as the 360 versions where you have to buy packs of three rather than the individual songs you want. LS

It better have that song from the Guitar Hero II ads.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

    SABOOOTAAAAGEEEEEEE!!! Love that song!!! Smilie

Im geting excited about this, hopefuly it should be good!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

how about Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd? how dare they talk about rock n' roll without adding those bands!!

    Yay, I <3 Muse Smilie

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

Sounds good, I wonder what the downloadable music will be like? Will we be able to search for them ourselves & put them on with SD cards, or will they be specifically chosen for updates by the game makers?

Anyway, it's sounding good! Maybe I'll get it, though whenever I say that, I never do.

    I didn't get SSX Blur after all ^^;

Hmm, pretty average song list so far. Paint it Black? NOt exactly the first song I think of when you talk face-melting fretwork, it's good song though.

Guitarists can also download fresh content online on multiple platforms to add to a growing list of fine music.

This to me says 'you cannot download songs for the Wii version, suckers'

Oh god here is the start of the "my band is not on the list so it sucks because I am the all authority on rock and roll" banter that plagues every Guitar Hero discussion. Smilie

Whoo Dragonforce! Saw them 5 Days ago friggin' brillant!
Also I'm told someone has put up a Dragonforce mod on the 360... The way he was talking about it he could be full of shit since he couldn't even tell me the name of the song. But seeing I don't have a 360 I have no clue.

    That would be insane.

I can't wait for this game to come out. I've yet to play a Guitar Hero game!

They need to put some Dokken songs on there.

Now...this news article, is it refering to the game in general or just the Wii version?? Cause these lines just sound too awesome:
"An online mode allows players to go head-to-head worldwide in a bid to gain legendary rock status"

"Activision have secured partnership with major and independent labels to bring an extensive catalogue to the Wii, with original recordings for even greater authenticity."

Really?? I'll be happy if it's true but I'm not going to get my hopes up...

I remember them issuing a statement that ALL versions of GH III will be online and the Wii and possibly the DS will use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

It needs some Sabbath, Master of insanity, starts of slowish then near the soloSmilie and lets not forget Maiden! A bit of Wasted Years or Two Minutes to Midnight.

In the 360 version there is the option of software updates, will that ever happen for the Wii or will we be stuck with the same fucking songs?

Although I can never get bored with the Metal, the D are awesome,(personally I think its the weakest song from the album),even though I dont think they are going to use any other song from them, due to the excessive swearing and the fact NO ONE on God's Green Earth would buy the censored or even likes listening to the censored version (Mainly because even if you heard the censored one first, the obivious fact is no one says "flipping" and It just isn't funny).

    Give me DDR.

Some early Anathema would work well in the game.

    Some Dying Fetus please.

Where's the Graveyard BBQ? They were the best thing about the original.

"We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have. In particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin. So hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game."

From the GHIII wiki page. It says that Queens of the Stone Age and Velevet Revolver are also confirmed to be on the setlist.
