Many would argue (including this very writer) that the WWE videogame franchise hit its euphoric peak back when WWE: No Mercy was released for the decrepit Nintendo 64 system. Nevertheless, THQ is set to continue the series on all current platforms, that includes on our favourite pearly white miniature gaming device, Wii.
IGN has decided to inform us that THQ are expected to "formally" announce Smackdown vs. Raw as of today, where it will land on just about every system known to man, delivering its offspring to the Playstation 2, XBOX 360, Playstation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Sony PSP.
"We are extremely pleased with the success of the SmackDown vs. Raw franchise and its continued growth to a widespread audience, particularly in our European markets. With the addition of fresh, innovative game play on the Wii, the tremendous capabilities of the PlayStation 3 system and unique handheld experiences for Nintendo DS and wireless devices, gamers can now truly live the life of a WWE Superstar and choose from numerous ways to play."
- Bob Aniello, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, THQ.
Assuming that all versions will be near identical, eight "Superstar Fighting Styles" will be available plus a new "Struggle Submission System", giving players analogue grappling control and allowing for you to adjust the strength of your holds.
New rosters, ECW Arenas, combined season & general manager modes, weapons; everything you could wish for are integrated into the edition. That's not limited to some complimentary touch screen controls for the DS version.
The game has snatched the Wii's wrestling virginity in one fell swoop. Be sure to tell us your thoughts on that fact inside.
