Nintendo News | Yoot Saito Brings Odama to Wii?

By Jorge Ba-oh 05.03.2007 10

The GameCube's interesting blend of tactical war-games with pinball gameplay, Odama, could be heading over to the Wii if prototype reports are true.

According to Siliconera, during the recent Japanese Media Arts festival, Odama Creator Yoot Saito revealed a prototype of the game running using Wii controls. Instead of using the GameCube's microphone support, players would use single button controls coupled with remote pointing to control an army.

Whether or not the project will go forward remains to be seen, but certainly shows promise for a Yoot Saito project heading to Wii in the future.

Thanks to C3 reader Hulkmania for the tip.

Maybe I'll pick it up then...

Wow, Suprise Suprise Smilie.

Hmm, not sure if that would be any good. There was nothing wrong with the mic controls and they were essential because every button was used, must only be ditching them because there isn't one on the Wii, which is obviously a bad thing from a design point of view.

But still, more people might play Odama!Smilie

Seaman 2 needs to be on the Wii also.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

...Bleh!

Odama seemed to be overloaded with crappy things, but underneath a very good gaming-idea!
I hope they learn about GC-version, tweak it, add very good tilting-control with Wiimote and just release it again. Because it was a refreshing idea and looked great! I hope this is true.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I enjoyed Odama, i thought it was good!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Odama needs the microphone controls, too much going on otherwise. Motion controls could potentially help, but I think it would feel better with the mic anyway as you're controlling an army as you would in reality, with voice.

As Grumbler says though, the more people who Odama the better. Seaman 2 on Wii would be great too, that's one PS2 port I wouldn't object to.

Never played Odama, it got absolutely slaughtered everywhere, but everyone seems to love her on C3.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

I heard that it was pretty awful...

Screwing the rules since 1989.

But... If every button was used on a GC controller and the Wii controller has less buttons... I don't see this working somehow. Didn't the 'Cube microphone plug into one of the controller slots? If so I don't see why they couldn't use it on the Wii version too. They'd just have to have a grip for holding it to the Wii-mote instead of a GC controller.
