We all know that videogame corporations generate shedloads of dosh, and one new studio aims to cash in, but for a far more admirable cause.
OneBigGame is the worlds first non-profit videogames publisher, aiming to publish games which will hopefully not only provide us with entertainment, but raise funds for a variety of childrens charities, as well as raise awareness among youths.
It hopes to become a channel, through which game developers can use those profit margins to help those in need. Based in Marin County, California, OneBigGame is set to go public at the Games Developers Conference 2007 in San Francisco, seeking to extend its reach to the many attending game developers.
The company has already found some relative success, with the support from a number of development studios including Avalanche Studios, Kuju, Freestyle and Relentless.
Martin de Ronde, previously co-founder of Guerrilla Games and responsible for the OneBigGame initiative commented; "OneBigGame is basically a global platform that will allow game developers to use their creative resources to do something good for the world."
He continued, "So far, industry response has been tremendous. Over the past months, we have been conducting informal talks with a wide variety of games industry people, and we are confident the development community is ready for a large scale industry wide charity initiative."
A wonderful prospect, lets hope that more industry bigwigs take notice.
