Nintendo News | Sega Sammy Announces New Wii Pachinko Game

By Ben 01.03.2007 12

Following the brief snippet of news regarding Sega Sammy's new Wii project earlier this week, we now have a few more details about the intriguing game.

Pachinko and Pachislot, popular Japanese slot machines, have been added to the Wii's growing collection of simulation software via an announcement from Sega Sammy, the same developer behind previous iterations on the Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2. The title of the game (Jissen Pachinko/Pachislot Hisshouhou! Sammy's Collection Hokuto no Ken Wii) roughly translates as "Fighting Pachinko/Pachislot Victory Way! Sammy's Collection Fist of the North Star Wii", and is set for a Japanese release on 24th May this year. It is also confirmed to have an online ranking system.

Poor Sega. Smilie

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Between this and the talk of Guilty Gear coming to the Wii, it definitely seems the Sammy side of business is as behind Nintendo as the Sega part!

That name Rocks! Smilie

But, uhh...I've played pachinko and it's not exactly what I would think of as interactive (the entire control could be done with one button to release the next ball). Granted it's a bit of fun for a while, but not something I'd consider paying money for.

Is there more to it than just a pachinko (and pachislot) game? Or maybe they've evolved a lot since I last played one (late 70's).

Ive played Pachinko in Akhibara district and loved it, i was drunk however. LS

never heard of it... but awsome name though!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Er, its Pachinko. The Japanese love Pachinko, so do not be suprised if you do not get it.

EDIT: Most Americans do not understand why Europeans and South Americans love "Football" so much. Dose that mean it is a bad sport? No. So leave the negative culturalism aside and suport the good in it.

This is most likely going to bost sales in Japan. Smilie

Who brought culturalism into it? You did.(as usual)

It's not like it's a highlight of Japanese culture, just like football hooliganism isn't (which is actually possibly one of the lowest points of several cultures where soccer is popular).

Pachinko is associated with funding organised crime (I've seen Sammy comically referred to sometimes as the 'Pachinko Mafia') and dingy smoking dens. It's effectively gambling, so anyone's perfectly justified in having a slightly negative view of it.

Er, thanks for the attacking bird brain.

What I mean is do not say "Hmmmm, Pachinko? What is that? I would not buy it, it must suck!" You were most likely not ment to buy it obviously because of culture. Most Americans/EU that I have met have no idea what Pachinko is, so they automiticaly says it sucks.

In Japan its popular though. Sure, the Yakuza is involved in operations, but then again in my home town the Mafia owns alot of legal crap.

I like how you took a warning of "do not diss because its not part of your culture" and turned it into an attack on me. Fucking skum. Smilie

P.S. If you do not think that culture has nothing to do with trends and styles, then please read this and call me in the morning.

But there was no point in you saying that because no one had said anything to call for it. You always bring this sort of thing into threads as if we're all at each others throats over who's country is the best when in fact it's usually irrelevant.

What pachinko is and how popular it is in Japan is explained clearly in the news piece, you're not required to patronize us all by repeating it.
