Nintendo News | Wii Want High School Musical? [Update]

By Ben 11.03.2007 27

Update

High School Musical, the game, will be released this August on Wii and now Nintendo DS (as well as Sony's PS2) to coincide with the release of the sequel to Disney's original movie phenomenon. In the Wii version, the songs, which will come from both movies, can be sung as solos or duets. Disney Interactive Studios have also incorporated motion captured choreography to allow players to feel the beat and vibes of the actual dances from the film.

The Nintendo DS version differs quite radically, and has the player travelling the US competing in the ultimate musical competition. The player can choose from 6 of the film's main characters or their own customised character, and will be able to dance along to some of the film's popular tracks using the DS's unique features. Dance videos can also be shared amongst friends using the portable's wireless communications.

Look out for yet another party oriented game heading to your Wii soon!

Original Story

A listing has appeared on EBgames' website showing a new game coming to Nintendo's Wii: "High School Musical with Microphone". Now, although the idea of a microphone-based party game isn't anything new, is it not quite odd that it has solely been listed here? Nevertheless, it is being developed by Disney Interactive (aka Buena Vista Games) and is scheduled for a release in August.

Stick with C3 to see if this comes into fruition...

I really don't expect much from this but it could turn out to be a decent musical party game. We all know how movie spin-off games end up.

I agree. Oh dear. Some kids would probibly love it though.
We'll see.

Sarah.

Haven't seen the movie, never will. Even if it is a good party game (average at best more likely), I would be guided by my daughters. This means - NO. They are not into Disney schmaltz/kitsch goop. Now, an anime version - another story.

Temporarily banned until further notice.

The movie is one of which you hate- but love- even though you really dont want to. It's the cheesist thing ive ever seen. I cant stand the songs anymore. But it is great.

Sarah.

I've seen the movie and it is just hilarious. The acting is disney channel standard but the singing voices sound so stupid coming out of the actor's/actresses mouths. It dosen't fit.

It was my brother who was watching it. I was playing Prince of Persia T2T in the same room.

By Disney Channel standard, do you mean good? I think the film does a very good job of aiming for its audience - trend following kids. It has been a massive success and in all honesty, if that means more Wii sales, I can't see this as such a bad thing. Saying that, it only further increases the kiddiness aspect that Nintendo tried so hard to shed.

Oh, and as if you were playing PoP, you were obviously singing along to all of the tunes as well Smilie

If there's a single thing that absolutely no-one or nothing should ever try and do, it's cater to them.

Ah, this reminds me!

I still haven't see the movie yet, after watching all those ads on ABC 1 I feel I owe it to myself to see it.

*Wanders off to one of those sites*

This should be ace, though. Smilie

Why? Because then they make a lot of money?

No, because most trends involve trying to copy Americans, again something which no-one should ever do.

Starred

Buena Vista Games are bloody fucking crap!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Smilie We had this on N63 a month ago, this is old news.

Anyway to the game, the film was good, but a game would, well just blatantly be rubbish. To be honest it's not the sort of film you can convert into a game.

Average. Not great but not bad either.
I'll admit that some of the songs are catchy.Smilie

I just assumed it was tongue in cheek actually GR. Y'know, a bit of a joke. Ah well. I'm not sure if that mini rant is aimed at me or Dan...

If you hate American culture so much, stop going to the movies,
I have, with the exception of Hot Fuzz

eating the food you do
Scotch eggs? I'm sure 95% of the food I eat was invented by anyone other than the Americans

wearing the clothes you do
I'm sure we must have had trousers and shirts before America was even discovered. I could be wrong though

playing the games you do
I'm also pretty sure most of the games I play are made by Japanese or British developers (Or in some cases, the French) since most games that come from America are crappy sports games. Fair point though, I've probably played some decent US-made games. The culture's still shit though, and I'm not sure that would have much/any affect on games...

Anyway...

High School Musical? Oh my God. It has the American term for secondary school in, and will probably feature lots of pretty teenage girls dancing around in very tight school uniforms to appeal to the male demographic. In short, I and any other self-respecting british gamer will think twice before bbuying it. The music may be good, but I suspect that the presentation would put me off anyway.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

AAH YES!!! YES!!! I've been bitching about this! Finally! I hope it's like Singstar and it has the tone bars.

Yay! I wish I was as creative as Disney!

...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Turn it off!!! OFF!!!

I think I saw a trailer for this movie. It was extremely awful, typical run-and-cry-tunes waaay below boygroup-niveau (and that means something). So the movie was utter bullshit and so will be the game. Why? Because with songs from the movie and characters from the movie???
Oh my god!

Please dump this game in the same gorge as the old E.T.-game back in the 80s...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

anything made by Buena Vista is shit.........all thier games are crappy disney movie-to-game crap...

Omg this is so sweet!!!
