Nintendo News | Hotel Dusk Detailed in Preparation for European Launch

By Adam Riley 21.02.2007 20

Having already proved a great success in Japan (nearing 100,000 units in just three weeks) and doing quite well in the US so far (selling 20,934 in January), Nintendo of Europe is gearing up to releasing Cing's Hotel Dusk: Room 215 in Europe very soon.

Make sure you're feeling sharp when Hotel Dusk: Room 215 launches exclusively on the Nintendo DS this spring. From the makers of 'Another Code: Two Memories', this compelling and multi-layered mystery title thrusts players into the midst of a gripping adventure, which they must unravel piece-by-piece to reveal the hidden secrets. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 launches across Europe on the Nintendo DS on the 13th April, 2007.

Hotel Dusk is an adventure that captures all of the excitement of a good mystery novel. As the game progresses, the immersive and intriguing storyline means players will not want to put their Nintendo DS down until they know what happens next, just like a great book. To add to the literary feel of this enthralling adventure, players must hold the Nintendo DS vertically like a book as they guide the main character Kyle through his mysterious surroundings using the touch screen.

Players take on the role of retired New York cop Kyle Hyde, who flees the big apple following his involvement in the disappearance of his close friend, Bradley. Kyle now works as a salesman for Red Crown Company in California and one night in December 1979 stops for the night in a mysterious old hotel in the middle of the desert. It soon becomes apparent to Kyle that everything is not as it seems. The players must piece together the many missing elements of his past that are entwined with the residents of Hotel Dusk, such as Louis DeNonno a former New-York pickpocket whose best friend was killed by a man known only as 'J' and Mila, a mysterious young girl with the same bracelet his best friend wore three years ago before he disappeared.

Thanks to the Nintendo DS's dual screens, players can view the full 3D environment they are exploring on the left and a map they can navigate around using the stylus on the right. In order to investigate locations in more detail, players can 'swap' the view and employ the stylus to check objects and items of interest. This unique feature provides players with a real sense of freedom in the game as they can explore every inch of every room and leave no stone unturned.

Puzzle solving is an important feature of Hotel Dusk and one that helps progress the intricate storyline. At the end of each chapter, Kyle recaps the important clues and plot elements that he has discovered during his investigation through a mini-quiz. Players can also take notes in Kyle's notepad using the stylus

From the makers of Another Code. :\

It's all about professor Layton though.

Everybody has to buy this when it comes out, seriously. I finished it last night and it's brilliant, really great mystery storyline - can be a bit predictable, but there were some good twists. The characters and translation are perfection, and it deserves to be no less than a success.

well reading that certainly sold me, although i was going to buy it anyway, because its another UNIQUE game that could only be done well on the ds, i like new games, and this one sounds really good, i just hope hours wise it lasts aslong as a decent rpg than a platformer, i dont want to complete the game in a day, i'd hope for 60 or so hours but im pissed if i think it's that long aren't i

I haven't heard a bad thing about this game, so it must be something special.

Cant wait! Definitely going to buy it. April 13th eh? Pitty it's not sooner. Smilie

Eledees (not intentionally pointing out your mistake Hulk') isn't really that high up on my "i want it" list now.

I'm not planning to buy any more Wii games 'til BWii and the like. Hotel Dusk is a must buy though Smilie

this game looks pretty good!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Another Code really disappointed me, so I'll pass on this one for now...

It's far, FAR better than Another Code. Think of Another Code as a 4 hour 'adventure game potential' teaser, then make the game much longer, improve the controls, make characters far more likable (Kyle, the protagonist, is cool as hell), less annoying backtracking (still present but it's not nearly as bad), mix in a truly brilliant script and you have Hotel Dusk, a game that's hugely better than Cing's previous DS game. Another Code annoyed me a few times in the few hours it lasted, while Hotel Dusk annoyed me for about a minute in my 20 hours of playthrough. Definitely one of the best games on DS for me.

I'm really looking forward to see if they can make even more improvements with their next title, whether it's for DS or for Wii.

I'm not really sure I want a protagonist who is 'as cool as hell'...

That aside, about flipping time. This ought to be excellent, as I really enjoyed Another Code. And twenty hours! Sheer pwnage.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Cool in a sarcy-git detective kind of way. The best kind.

I really enjoyed Another Code, but it was too short. This will definitely be on my 'want' list.

Smilie Yep it's my number one must get, DS game of this year. I really enjoyed Another Code and although it was short it felt like a solid mystery/Point & Click type game. After completion and about a couple of months later I could remember seeing Hotel Dusk (Japanese name, Wish Room at the time) and it looked stunning. The art style really captured my attention and seeing it now in motion, it just looks so good. After that I have been following it a lot and the anticipation is immense, I really can't wait for this one and I can almost guarantee this will be a great game (hopefully).

Smilie My copy should arrive late in the morning tomorow, i will not wait on titles like this, i have already played a little on a friends to get the jist of it, and it is top draw. LS

If any of you played (and liked) Another Code, you are going to love this game. I couldn't wait for the European release and got it on import. Completed it the other night. Total game time was 21 hours and I got a little stuck once or twice .. so much longer than the previous title .. Smilie

What I like about Another Code, was some of the more interesting ways you used the DS - and this is definately carried forward in Hotel Dusk as you solve some of the puzzles - great way of taking objects from characters too.

The graphics style is really good when you see it - images and blurry video don't do it justice at all .. Smilie

You can take your time with this game, can save whenever you like, and the character interactions are great as well.

Definately one to get IMO .. :cooldude:

Also, if you like this style of game, then one you might want to place on your radar is Undercover: Dual Motives - by a company called Anaconda

Set in a WWII Research Laboratory .. investigating "strange goings-on" .. no release date yet as far as I know.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those that understand binary and those that don't ..

Really? It's 20 hours? Maybe because you have to read a lot...

Tons apparently, but that should not put anyone off, by all accounts, the story becomes a major draw and is essntial to the core of the game. LS

* waits till later this morning when the postie visits *

Yep, 20 hours was my completion time. There is a hell of an amount of text, but the translation is perfect and the game would be nothing without it.

And is that a bad thing?
