Nintendo News | Godzilla Heads to Wii

By Ben 31.01.2007 13

IGN have revealed that the popular movie franchise Godzilla is heading to Wii, courtesy of Atari. The game, called Godzilla: Unleased, will utilize the motion sensitive capabilites of the Wii remote allowing players to "tap into their inner monster powers", according to Rick Mehler, Director of Marketing.

The game will incorporate multiple story paths, urban destruction and the ability to "claw, kick, stomp, throw and blast their way through the streets of major world cities in order to claim the ultimate, beastly title: King of the Monsters." The game sports smoother graphics than its GameCube predecessor (Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters), 480p and widescreen support. There are also plans to incorporate the WiiConnect24 feature of the Wii console.

Destructible buildings, four player mayhem and gesture based control all add up to what seems to be a very rounded package. Unleashed will also be released on the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, Q3 '07 in the US.

Zcollvee, please, what does that mean?

Could be alright...I'll wait to see more on it.

Wouldn't hold too much hope for this title.

Wow the Gamecube one must have looked pretty crap...

That is such an awesome screenshot, I'm such a sucker for flashing lights of contrasting colors.

I blame the Chaos Emeralds.

Well, if the story mode is anything like the one in Dstroy All Monsters, then I probably won't get it for that, but I've been a big Godzilla fan since I could comprehend such things. And who doesn't like blowing shit up with atomic fire breath?

How does this game look bad?I thought the one for the GC looked pretty good and if the are adding in things like Bumbmapping, bloom, haze, Higher poly models, and dynamic physics i think that sounds pretty awesome.Plus the game isnt going to look that great from the screen shots that they had because as some know bumb mapping doesnt look good when you look at it close up/at a side angle.

the GC game was preety fun to play... so hopefully this will be aswell!! it looks Good!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

I've noticed people falling into this trap, mainly because I almost did so myself, but why are we allowing for average graphics? I'm certain I have GC games which look just as good (probably better) than this from a few years ago. We shouldn't be judging these thing compared to all the shit we've seen so far for the Wii, saying it looks good for a Wii game...

Please don't say a game looks good unless it actually looks good... Developers will think it's fine and you'll destroy the world ;-;

I hear what your saying and I totally agree. Wii is capable of FAR better than this. I mean, come on, Wii is about 3 times more powerful than GC and about 20% more efficient. Now take into consideration the kind of graphically stunning games that has been released for GC like StarFox Adventures, Rebel Strike, Rogue Leader, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Super Mario Sunshine and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat just to name a handful.

The following excerpt is from a post I put up on the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Screenshot article:

Developers seem to be getting complacent and just plain lazy (although ignorant and stupid could be said about quite a few as well). Wii is capable of far better graphics than what we've been seeing, even at this early stage of the system's life and the type of development cycles these games have had to go through (about a year of dev time and receiving final dev kits at the end of the cycle). The current build of MP3:C is an excellent reference point for what Wii is graphically capable of. Hopefully Nintendo will get on top of this sitution quickly if they haven't already, and get these dev's to shape up.

So far, the Wiimote's utilization has been awesome for the most part, but devs seem to be settling with the notion that "Well, Wii is not as powerful as the competition and it's suppose to be all about the gameplay. People aren't expecting great graphics for it so we won't take advantage of Wii's processing & graphical power", and it's got me very concerned. All I personally want is for them to take full advantage of everything Wii's capable of and not half-ass the Wii version in any way like they did so often with our poor GameCube.

I good testament to the mentality that 3rd parties seem to have with Wii is the sheer amount of ports (from the PS2 versions to boot).

There is so much truth to this and it's getting to be really upseting.

However, regarding the game itself... OH, THANK YOU, LORD!!!! I LOVE these games! Well, I LOVE Godzilla anyway, but these games kick some serious booty! Smilie I hope they include the actual Toho soundtracks this time and give all the kaijuu their proper abilities and powers.

I was super pissed that Atari and Pipeworks screwed the so-called "exclusive" GameCube version by releasing it on Xbox (with some features that should've been included in the original GC version in the first place). They shouldn't have designated it an exclusive in the first place if they didn't intend to release it on any other platform. Then, despite the GC version selling better from the point the Xbox version was launched (at least here in the states where I am), a GC version was not created for the sequel. That was really slimey.

Chance favors the prepared mind.
