Nintendo DS News | Deltora Quest

By Ben 21.01.2007 6

IGN are reporting that Deltora Quest, a popular Australian manga, is being given the game conversion treatment courtesy of Bandai Namco's Japanese division. The new game is a 2D RPG with a story based around 7 stolen gems and a mysterious "shadow king". Naturally, the world needs saving and there are only three people that can do the job. With complete stylus control, this is sure to be an interesting take on the RPG genre.

Also of interest is the talent that Bandai Namco has employed to help create the game, including Hitoshi Sakimoto of Final Fantasy XII fame. A firm release date has not been set, but it is penned to hit Japanese shelves during Spring this year.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

I didn't know Deltora Quest was made into a manga... I thought it was just a series of fantasy books!

Well Deltora Quest is a manga, anime and set of books, actually. Shows its popularity, eh?

Nice one, hopefully this'll come out well for the DS..

The stylus controls sound like an interesting take on the RPG genre, pity the plot doesn't.

Weeeeeellllll... Almost every jRPG is more or less based on the same type of story:
Evil comes into the world and only YOU can save it. Plus you are weak, encounter the big boss early on, got defeated, being kept alive ('when we meet again, I will kill you! You are no match for me now!'), find thingy XY, which can destroy YZ and Bang, there's an epic battle at the end, in which YZ transforms into 2 or 3 forms.

But that's not entirely the wonderful thing about jRPGs. Check Final Fantasy, Grandia or the like: They are 'all the same', but their playing is very worth a while. It's like 'Inspector X hunts down murderer Y', but it's the style and the howto that counts.
But I am no one which hates playing games containing fresh ideas, but I also like playing Zelda, which in every game is most likely absolutely the same (visit dungeons, aquire the following weapons:..., and rescue... well... Hyrule by defeating Ganondorf).

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
