Japanese Sales | Nintendo Claims Entire Top 15!

By Adam Riley 12.01.2007 26

Due to the New Year holiday period in Japan, sales have been delayed considerably. However, it is time to play catch up, as after posting the last week of 2006's sales, those for week one of 2007 have been released.

Released by EG and Media Create, the latest data is showing that Dragon Quest Monsters has quickly sold through its initial stock and is closing in fast on breaking a million in just three weeks. Wii Sports and Wii Play are also resurgent and look to break a million each within the next few weeks, something only Super Smash Bros. Melee could manage on the GameCube in Japan!

General Knowledge Training joins the million-selling club this week, whilst New Super Mario Bros., More Brain Training and Animal Crossing are closing in on the four million mark. Also of note, both Pok

Why does Pok

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Laurelin Zelda is Wii's biggest selling game so far but due to shortages of both the Wii and Twilight Princess itself, it's causing shortages thus affecting it's sales rating. Nintendo need to pull their fingers out and stock up on both. I think Zelda Twilight Princess for Wii has surpassed the 2million mark (worldwide not sure about Japan) and can obviously go much further if Nintendo efficiently restocks the World with both the game and the Wii console.

Yup and I agree with you on this, to my knowledge, Pokemon Battle Revolution hasn't even been released worldwide and it's already sold 150k so how possibly can it be labelled as a flop? Unless the game in it's self fails to live up to expectations.

Are you kidding? I bought Pok

Very interesting to see the PS3 selling only 60k, and with plenty of stock, while the Wii fails to meet demand at 150K.

And of course, the DS never stops; makes me wonder if Nintendo just shipped a million units there the next day, if they'd all sell out over the week.

Zelda in Japan isn't that big

Yes it is, Zelda's as big in Japan as it is anywhere else.

I'm surprised the demand for the PS3 is THIS low...i thought it would be a bit higher...even with the super high price.

You know Laurelin there's a debate going on across a few websites to whether Twilight Princess is actually BETTER than Ocarina of Time thus knocking it off it's top spot as being the much acclaimed best games of all time. Also to make things even more interesting if Ocarina of time was really better than Majoras mask.

Makes you thing whether to argue for or against the status quo, doesn't it??

Another thing Zelda is HUGE in Japan as against Metroid which is HUGE in the West.
Also I wasn't slating Pokemon I was as suprised as you that it was considered a flop. I too am getting it and although a fan of the past games and the anime, I'm not a HUGE one.

Yes it is, Zeldas as big in Japan as it is anywhere else.

It's big hence Ocarina of Time selling 1.46m in Japan, with 2.1m sales in PAL regions and 4.1m in America.

Therefore it is very big but not as big as it's America and Europe but then again that could be due the population differences

As well, it is mentioned how Ridge Racer 7 and Gundam on the PlayStation 3 have both finally reached 100,000 sales each.

Yay, only ~400k units more to sell to break even Smilie

Nintendo isn't doing very well. I think it is their marketing strategy, I mean, they release a bunch of games based on established IPs that everybody has heard of, or get some crazy indie developers like Bandai Namco and Square Enix to shove some conformist crap onto their systems that probably would've suited the Cellphone platform better. I mean, its fair enough that they're selling, y'know, a few DS Lites, but in comparison to the monster that is the X-BOX, they're going down a creek without a paddle.

They might as well just give up now. It couldn't get any worse. Smilie

The top 15 Nintendo games... oh sweet jesus do Nintendo have an competition in japan

nintendo going 3rd party confirmed!

My goodness...We've seen Nintendo take the top ten, even often, but the top fifteen? My goodness, the Gamecube never had the same success the Wii is enjoying!

By September the Wii will have outsold the GameCube in Japan mark my words.

Smilie Yup Ninty is going good guns in the land of the rising sun. Imagine what would happen if there was were enough DS's/Wii's to meet demand. Smilie

In the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Over 344k DS's sold
Over 146k Wii's sold

So it looks like Nintendo won two products will be fighting with rach other for top spot.

24/30 are on Nintendo platforms.

WOZZER

okay. Maybe you're right: Zelda is as big in Japan as anywhere else. Someone here said it was not...
And 'what Zelda is better':
Clearly that's subject to everyone. In my opinion TP is better then Ocarina, because graphics are better - that's no reason - but you are more into it then into Ocarina. I found the Spinner yesterday, made some minigames and searched for hearts, poes and Co and was *completely* lost into it's world.
I am a very huge fan of Ocarina and it's the best. But TP is a bit better for me. And Majora was never the thing for me, because you do not dive into it. that has to do with its time-limit and you are under a permanent rush.

I think I was completely mistaken. You, Adam, said, that Wii Sports and Play sold very good, I was so stricken by it's 'low sales numbers', that I thought, they were failures. I am somewhat relieved now.
And hey: considering that even the crazy Japanese people considered Wii Sports and Play as 'I do not need more than this until new year', these games must smash over there.
And they are that good. Only thing: too less different things to play and to... well... sport! *g*

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

If you think that DBZ on Wii did nearly 70,000 units, then WarioWare is one place lower and must have done over 60,000, with Zelda just three places lower, most likely with something like 50,000 units sold!

Wii games have DS-style legs? Looks that way at the moment! Smilie

Was Rayan:RR released in Japan? I'm sure they would love the crazy-ness of that game!

Released 14th december

Famitsu gave it a 8/7/7/8 (30/40) which is okay.

Both Monkey Ball and Rayman both entered the top 30 once then quickly disappeared, likewise Red Steel.

The Japanese however had a selcetion of WiiPlay+controller, Wii Sports and Wario Ware, so Monkey Ball and Rayman didn't have much chance.

Looks like the Xbox isn't being monitored or whatever this year.

The DS is set to overtake the gameboy Advance's lifetime sales in Japan very soon.

DS + DS lite = 6,582,430 + 7,768,202 = 14,350,632

GBA + SP + Micro = 8,823,166 + 5,917,404 + 563,241 = 15,303,811

That means theres less than a million between them and at this rate of sales the DS should reach that in about 6 weeks on a conservative estimate. Pretty impressive considering the DS has been out for about 3 years less than GBA!

I dont think pokemon battle revo is doing good.
dont think itl do good in america either!
but no one wnants to buy a wi-fi 3D pokemon game because Wi-fi is already on pkmn D/p
