Nintendo Wii News | First UK Adverts Shown - Footage Inside!

A whole new slogan for Nintendo now, as the first UK adverts are starting to air on various TV channels. So far they have been spotted on E4, Channel 4, UKTV Gold, Sky Sports News and Challenge TV. The advert (shown below), features the Wii controller, a quick voiceover and very little else.

It all seems very much in line with the recent boom in 'teaser' commercials that leave the viewer wanting more information. Expect the campaign to develop and evolve over coming weeks as the Wii is fully unveiled in commercial form; games and all. Personally we really like it, but no doubt some will be up in arms about it being 'awful'.

    Eh, not a big fan of minimalist adverts. I do think it could have done with a better voice over though. Ah well! Coulda been worse.

    Not bad. This is just a teaser though I think, I expect to see more informative adverts demonstrating motion control in the next couple of weeks.

    I saw this! I saw it on Tuesday (thats yesterday lol) on Rapture TV (Sky 193). During the break of g@mers.

    I hope they don't rely solely on this and a tour that isn't even coming to Liverpool to advertise Wii before launch. I'll be very unhappy otherwise. Smilie

    Yeah, anyone remember that programme with the magic pencil that used to write letters so you could understand how to do them? I used to watch it when I was ill during secondary school (that sad), it was from the early 90s: "Up, down, round the loop and kick", its JUST like that voice. Playdays anyone?

    Still, I like the idea...perhaps not the execution.

    Seems like they decided to follow the japanese commercials for the UK.

    adverts dont need to be great, but retailers will be happier to see Nintendo advertising.

    Surely, these may be the start of translated japanese ads for Europe. Wonder what hits Germany soon...

    I don't find it bad to translate the Japanese ads. It's some kind of new too. Nintendo in the past thought, that people are too different to use the same ad. That I find remarkable. I like it.
    The voice I don't like. But maybe I have to adapt to this woman instead of the Nihon-man asking 'what is that' in Japanese ad - you can find these on the japanese section of http://www.wii.com

    I don't like the voice, it's VERY PATRONISING. It sounds like some program on Cbeebies. Smilie

    But it's quick & to the point & guess, although it also doesn't even tell people WHAT Wii IS.

    I guess Nintendo thought it was a smart thing to do... at first. It's just TOO without info, at least show some of the teasers like around E3 time, with the people playing Tennis with the slow mo &.... y'know. They seemed to work.
