Nintendo News | Namco Bandai Support for Wii = Overwhelming!

By Adam Riley 11.11.2006 33

Following on from the overwhelming support that Ubisoft has already shown for Nintendo's new Wii console, Japanese developer Bandai Namco has confirmed how strong it will back the system. Whilst the French outfit is boasting a total of fourteen projects on the boil at the moment, Bandai Namco's Vice President and Representative Director Shin Unozawa announced his company's plans at a recent Press Conference.

According to Unozawa, Bandai Namco currently has ten projects in-progress on Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's XBOX 360, whilst there is a massive thirty in the works for Wii. But the question has to be, what could they be?

Well, according to various sources it has already revealed primary details on the following:

  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
  • Ennichi no Tatsujin
  • Final Furlong
  • SD Gundam G Breaker
  • New Digimon Project
  • Pac-Man Carnival
  • Sword of Legendia
  • Tamagotchi's Sparkling President
  • Xevious for the Virtual Console
  • Then there are the following that were originally listed under Wii development:

  • Namco Bandai Action game (Untitled)
  • Namco New RPG (Untitled)
  • Namco Wii Project (Untitled)
  • However, some of those may just be uncovered now and included in the first list. But what else could there be? Will Namco franchises like Ridge Racer, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Time Crisis or Ace Combat make an appearance? Will the recently announced Mario Kart GP 2 for the arcade be eventually ported? Or will the remainder simply be made up of Virtual Console re-releases?

    Soul Caliber with Wii control.
Its one of the first games I wanted when saw the Wii remote.

    Riiiiidge Racer with Wii steering...joy.

The Mario GP arcade would be good, though I hope they improve the handling from the arcade version.

    Go Namco. We love you.

Thirty? Too good to be true, for sure! Smilie

I'm really intruiged by Sword of Legendia, could it possibly be a remake of the PS2 title, Tales of Legendia? Or is it mere consiquence that both have the word Legendia in the title? Smilie

    Soul Calibur III/VI?

    PLEASE!!! Smilie

I was thinking the exact same thing...

Sounds good, and I'm definitely looking forward to Budokai Tenkaichi 2, amongst others.
Seeing I've recently been playing SCII again, I'm also hoping for perhaps a new SC installment... It could be so darn good... But then again, it could also be very bad, if not executed right. Time will tell what they have in store for usSmilie

They already announced Soul Calibur IV, didn't they? I'm hoping Wii'll get the SCIII it always deserved, with Link in it..... it would be drools. Smilie

Just add Soul Calibre to that list and then , Namco will I love you.

This is all good stuff. People are going to get some serious choice with the Wii. The amount of games for PS3 is pitiful and the Xbox 360 doesn't seem to have a steady supply.

Nintendo seem to be getting what we want! Choice!!!!!

    Woooooooo!!!

Id go into crazy hate mail mode if Wii got SCIII whilst all the other consoles got SC IV Smilie.

All there biggest names, Ridge Racer, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Time Crisis, need to be seen on Wii, its a shame we got the majority of titles that noone wants Smilie, just give Wii one of the 4 big titles (Time Crisis the most likely, no need to include a light gun any more).

I don't know what sort of games namco make...but a soul caliber, katamari and time crisis would be nice

Um...no its not :s Because of the delay theres gona be a huge amount of games available for release day, considering if it was release next week there would only be 12...this means that assassins creed and army of two will be release day titles Smilie

Digimon isn't that unpopular in Japan, believe it or not, I think it's on the 5th/6th series.

Although apparantly it has fan service now. Smilie

I doubt Ridge Racer will make a Wii appearance, I sure would be surprised, & Time Crisis could work really well on Wii with the Wiimote. But yeah, Namco would be clever if they brought some of their other franchises over. Bring everyone over to Nintendo! Smilie

Yes, yes, makje everyone sell out to nintendo! Smilie

They've already made Konami sell out with Snake on super smash brothers, tbh i wouldnt be suprised if we saw a port of MGS4 in the future.

Meh, Bandai just make toys and stuff. I'll care when there's 'overwhelming support' from proper huge gaming companies.

Namco then? They're pretty huge.... Smilie

I mean, PacMan, gaming icon of the universe init? Smilie

And the prize for most idiotic post this year goes to...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Most'll be VC games if they've already included Xevious in that list.

And, um, Adam, a small niggle...its not "has confirmed how strong it will back the system", but "how strongly (adverb, natch) it will back the system"
