Nintendo News | Point-and-Click Genre on DS

By Adam Riley 06.10.2006 15

Just when you thought the idea of seeing a traditional point-and-click game on the Nintendo DS was fading away, today Cubed3 has uncovered news of a publisher called 'Anaconda' has one such game from that genre in the works.

Read below for the official Press Release:

"Just released in German-language territories, adventure game Undercover: Operation Wintersun, an exciting hunt for a Nazi nuclear bomb in the Second World War, will get a prequel on the Nintendo DS: ANACONDA is announcing Undercover: Dual Motives, where players take control of physicist and reluctant spy Dr. John Russell in his early days, investigating at a British research facility.

Austrian developer Sproing is already hard at work on the handheld adventure game. Undercover: Dual Motives features both classic adventure gaming elements for on-the-go, as well as using the unique capabilities of the DS to implement novel ideas. In addition to John Russell, players have access to a second playable character in Audrey, the secretary of the facility's director.

Both screens of the DS are used, when Russell and Audrey investigate. Working separately, the player is in control of one of them at a time, directing them via the touchscreen and stylus. The other screen displays the currently inactive character, which he can switch over to at any time. The challenge: cleverly using the individual abilities of the two different characters in order to solve the game's logical puzzles

You really have to hope that more developers will try their hand at the point-and-click genre as well...

This could be a sleeper hit with fans of classic PC adventures!

Looks intresting.. nice gfx

Broken Sword FTW! Smilie

never heard of this game. But I absolutely love Adventures. So I give this one a shot...

...literally I mean!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Not that we don't have enough adventure games already, that is. There's Another Code, as well as Phoenix Wright and Project Hacker (If you count those last two games as adventure). Plus, ScummVM, an emulator for running classic Lucasarts adventure games and many other such as the Broken Sword series, now has an official port for the Nintendo DS for those with the right hardware.

I've always said that point-and-clicks are perfect for the DS. Now we see a company like this, maybe others will follow suit, maybe even for the Wii as well. Smilie

Point and click adventures soom to at home on the DS, they could be even better on the WiiSmilie

Another Code sequel! Prequel! Spin-off!!! Just make another one!

There's a rumour about Cing working not only on Hotel Dusk, but a Wii title, possibly linked with Another Code!
