Nintendo News | 1 Million Wii Units for US Confirmed

By Adam Riley 25.09.2006 15

Confirmation -1 million Wii units are primed for North America. Thanks to Mr. Ashcroft for the tip.

Quick News - With Nintendo confirming 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of 2006, it should be no surprise that Reggie Fils-Aime has announced the US launch will easily surpass Sony's dedicated 400,000 PS3 units from 17th November.

Lets see now....shortage of PS3's + increidbly expensive anyway = People thinking "fuck that", and looking for alternatives.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the USA get a third or half of the systems on offer, then Japan with the next most, then the rest spread across PAL territories...

The US is said to be getting 'the majority', so I'd evaluate that as 1.5 million, 1 million to Japan, 1 million to Europe and 0.5 to Aus, etc.

Could be US - 2, Japan - 1, Eur/Aus - 1, though.

I'm hoping it'll be the former allocations, but I fear it'll end up as the latter and things will be tighter than people expect...

It's at times like this I'm thankful I'm not one of those who wants a PS3 upon launch, though.

now matter how many they get out there its goin to sell out like crazy for sure

Hellz YEAH! I'm more than guaranteed a Wii now! But I still feel the need to reserve it anyways...

it is stating the obvious.

Raz no way Australia will get 500k the DS had the best launch week ever for a computer console or handheld and it sold 22k so Australia will probably get 150k tops.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

0.5 to Aus, etc.

I think that pretty much means 'et al.' All those ickle places are included as well. But still probably too much.

It's obviously the Wii well have a much bigger launch then the PS3 in ALL territories. Sony are about to get OWNED. Seriously.

Les than $250 for Wii meant $249.99 so it must be 400 001 units for America!! Yay!!!

I'm surprised it's only a million set aside for the US, to be honest. Seems Nintendo is likely going full pelt in Japan then...(and I know it looks like -1 million in the story :tongueSmilie

I hope Europe doesn't get overlooked too much (although for some reason I doubt that)

wow that many... FJD's right Nintendo are totally cashing in on the fact that PS3 is too expensive for the majority of people and there wont be nearly enough for the people that do! Go Nintendo thats the way to win!!!

Here in PAL territories, the fact PS3 missed the Christmas launch is going to hurt them pretty badly. Nintendo have just stepped right in and taken the reigns. Hmmm.

I think Nintendo needs to be careful about Europe this time. With the PS3 being delayed and the decent amounts of hype surrounding the Wii, they could make a killing this Christmas. The potential for an amazing launch. I am hoping so at least. I want the Wii to be successful.

Woooooooo!!!
