Nintendo News | Harrison: No GC Control in Wii Version of Zelda

By Jorge Ba-oh 16.08.2006 50

Quick News: According to Random Nintendo, campfire Q&A with Nintendo's George Harrison confirmed that the Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess will only have support for Wii-specific control, and the GameCube version, GameCube control. "The GCN controller will be able to play the GCN version on the Wii console, but will not be able to play the Wii version."

Harrison again went to reiterate Nintendo's promise to release the game alongside the Wii later this year.

*cue thread of anger*

That's such a pisstake. Grrr. Surely they can fit both control schemes on one dual-layered DVD (around 8/9GB)?

I worry that the GC version may be spread over a few discs like some other GC games due to the restrictions in the size of the teeny 1.5GB cds.

Hmm, I'm still rooting for the GC version first, then the Wii one at a later date.

I think quite a lot of people may end up buying both at some stage - "ka-ching" says Nintendo.

Oh, come on. Its to make sales higher. "Lets try one, then the other!". Thats why.

I think i'll be doing the same I was hoping they would put GC controls on the Wii cause theres easly enough room.
I agree dojo99 its to do with sales.

Uh-oh, Nintendo must be trying to screw over their gamers again.

Oh well, Wii version for me anyway. Although it would have been nice for it to be included too.

Yep, Nintendo are being greedy bastards.

Looks like it's the Cube version for me then.

Wii version for me.

Lets hope they actually used that delay time to perfect the new control method.

Dissapointing.

I don't see the point in having the GC control scheme on the Wii version. You can still play traditional games, correct? Then there shouldn't be any worries. From what I can tell, it's just going to be small things, like for shooting arrows and fishing and bits like that. I wouldn't play the GC game anyways.

I'm getting the Wii version. i just hope it's going to have good controls, even if they need getting used to.

If anyone wants to buy both versions, you have a duty to buy at least one of them second hand. if you don't you're a bellend.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

First a shit re-naming of Sonic Wild Fire and now THIS!?!? This is the worst day EVER!

Oooh, and if you do get a GC version keep it in good condition - will sell for quite bit once the GC stocks die out and all that's left is the Wii version Smilie

well i9 have to say that while im a little dissapointed about this it was to be expected. as much as i love nintendo they dont half like to make money out of us. but i have to say i will only buy the wii version and not the gc version.
the wii controller has pretty much all the buttons that the n64 and tgc had as well as some snazzy motion sensing. nintendo wouldnt release a zelda with bad controls as it is one of their main franchises so i have no real worries about the wii version. i will now wait and buy it ,play it, love it enjoy the classic that is.

Stupid idea. Now I'm stuck between which version to get - depends on reviews I suppose.

GC version for me, no contest.

Hopefully LOZ will be one of the demos in stores so we can get a good feel for the Wii version and decide. Oooh, this is exciting!

We knew this back at E3!!

No we didn't >_>

We knew there were 2 versions, not that the Wii version lacked GC controls.

Wii version for me the graphics fram rate and son will be better and the fishing looks immense on the Wii remote, the GCversion will probably be spread over a couple of discs as well 100hours plus if i remember correctly and most likely will be poorly stocked

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

From all the reviews i've read the application of the Wiimote has been done gracefully well but those were just E3 reviews, i would like to wait for Leipzig reviews from my trusty N-sider.

This was to be expected. I'm not surprised, but it's not a big deal to me anyway. I'm all for the Wii version, it sounds absolutely stunning and all my buddies who went to E3 said it was awesome. I'll probably end up getting both versions, but for now... bring it on for Wii, lol.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

I'll read up on reviews leading up to the launch of the game (if they're available) and decide then. If people are pretty satisfied with the Wii control method, then I might go for that.

I'm really disappointed in Nintendo, though. I guess no matter how much they insist they care about the consumer, they're still out to make as much money as possible. They know that people will want to play with both control styles, and so will have to buy both versions to do so. Curse you Nintendo, gamers won't be happy.

Why would anyone expect the Gamecube controller to work for a Wii game. The whole point of the Wii is the Wii controller.

Not surprised...I'm still getting the Wii version.
