Industry News | Golden Joystick Shortlist Released

By John Boyle 02.08.2006 21

The final year of this generation of gaming is coming to a close and what better way to end it than with a glitzy somewhat respectable gaming awards ceremony. Yes, the Golden Joysticks are nearly here and the final shortlists for each category have now been announced. Nintendo do extremely well for nominations with Animal Crossing:Wild World raking up seven nominations by itself, other honourable mentions go to Mario Kart DS with six and Metroid Prime: Hunters with five. The main competition comes from Agent 47 and his game Hitman:Blood Money which raked in six nominations and seminal PC title Call of Duty 2 which has seven nominations to it's name. The voting page is here and the full list on nominations is below with the Nintendo games highlighted for you...not that we're trying to influence your vote in anyway.

So 50-cent...if anyone votes for that they should be banned from C3.

Handheld game of the year...8/10 of them are DS games! Smilie

Seems the DS has totally wiped the floor with the PSP on the software frontSmilie.

I just handed my votes in.

It makes me realize how

Not exactly anything to shout about when 50 Cent Bulletproof is nominated for Ultimate game of the year.

Not true, this was released today as the final nominations.

Well voting for those exact lists has been up for ages.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Those were votings for the nominations, the exact groups went up today along with the press release.

Well they don't seem to have refined the lists a great deal, that's pretty much what was there before, although now you mention it, I can't see Carol Vordaman's Sudoku which I voted for wherever I could. My bad.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

My choices:

I'd have given 'innovation' to DS, but Katamari was there. Why wasn't that in 'ultimate PS2'? Which bastards didn't nominate it? Smilie Odama should've also been in the innovations one, but never mind...

And Phoenix Wright better win something! Doubt it though.

I was going to vote, but I am not giving them my phone number. Smilie

Just make one up. If you untick the box they won't ring you, anyway.

I see there's a girls choice award, but no boys choice award! I feel like I'm being descriminated against! Smilie

ah well i hope nintendo do well in this. the wii is definitely the one to watch in 07, but shadow of colossus should win ps2 game of the year, its amazing.

Shadow the Hedgehog

Smilie burrrrrrrap! Also 50 cent girls award? I didn't realise chicks liked that walking target (he's been shot 8 times?)

Innovation is such a close call with Buzz, the wifi capabilities and guitar hero! gaming sure has evolved! (I found my old Dogz for GBC; if you hadn't seen it before and comapred it to nintendogs you'd pee yourself laughing!)

Piiiiii...ka.....SUEEEEEEE!

Mario Bros all the way

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

That thing is so ugly you'd almost want the worst game to win itSmilie

~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

Err...I did Super Mario GalaxySmilie

Why wasn't there developer of the year?! Capcom deserves that awardSmilie

For innovation I did Buzz!!! You have no idea how much nights I stayed up playing that thing with my mates.

The fact that 50 Cent: Bulletproof is on more than one of those lists is literally enough to make me lose all hope in humanity...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society
