Nintendo Wii Rumours | Virtual Console, Excite Truck, New Games & More

By Adam Riley 21.07.2006 18

People must be fed up with all the rumours floating around about Nintendo and its Wii console by now. But they keep on coming and the exception this time is that they actually seem believeable!

According to a report over on WiiIGN there are several things Nintendo Wii-related that we can expect. Below is a summarised list of what was rumoured:

  • The recent news of Crash Bandicoot coming to the Wii is false;
  • Excite Truck is looking like being a launch game now;
  • After the success of Naruto on the GC in the US, the 3rd and 4th versions from Japan will instead be put out on the Wii in the US;
  • When the Virtual Console launches, 20-30 games will be made available straight away;
  • The Leipzig Games Convention taking place in Germany next month will see the veil lifted on several new Wii games!
  • Make of those what you will, but Excite Truck was indeed far enough along at E3 to give it a chance at launch and the other 'rumours' just make too much sense to be ignored.

    Leipzig already?

    It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

    Not particularly interesting news...to me at least. Oh well, better than no news.

    I thought Excite Truck was already confirmed to be a launch title!

    When the Virtual Console launches, 20-30 games will be made available straight away

    Is that all? Smilie. I was looking for something closer to 100 (I know games will be added later, but 20 games isn't that much choice, especially considering how easy it must be to plop a retro game on there)

    20-30 games sounds fine to me. I'll probably buy half of them Smilie

    And you make the poinless post... why? Smilie

    20-30 games for VC at start sounds okay, but they do need a pretty decent range of games. 20/30 does seem a Wii bit dissapointing, but a good start nontheless.

    Go jbSmilie I'm pretty excited to hear this, Excitetruck seemed really fun to me, and 20 Virtual Console games at launch is more than enough for me, I don't even have 20 Gamecube games now(if I hadn't sold a few I would have though:lolSmilie

    As long as there's LttP and some PC Engine shooters I'll be happy.

    One of the launch games i am looking forward to is that disater management game, havnt heard much about it though, any links would be great you guys.

    i've always thought that excite truck was a launch title, well its been in my list for a day one buy. also its good to hear a few more wii games may be revealed soon as i was starting to worry about the pure lack of game info. i hope we get to see more of day of disaster.

    i think the VC games, 20-30, sounds about right. you cant expect a thousand on day one it would make no sense. by limiting wats there people will be able to buy them play them and then get more. even if they released say 10 VC games a month we'll be going with content for VC for years. its a good strategy. you'd confuse people if the choice is too big. expect big names, mario, sonic, bonk, zelda, metroid etc. more niche stuff will follow later.

    20-30 games on the Virtual console is about right. having a hundred or more might cause gamers to spend their money on VC games rather than new games for the Wii. Think of how many VC games a gamer can buy for $50.00. At that price a gamer will only get one new Wii game. Also gamers could play VC games until the price of the Wii games drop to 29.99 and buy them cheaply. This is all speculation of course. However, the reason may have to deal with the process of making games from Sega, Hudson, and Nintendo internet ready, meaning bandwith limits, software conversions, and other technical stuff.

    What I mean is that time is being spent on developing an emulator for all the games.

    Will those games being unveiled include Super Smash Bros.??

    But it already has been... They can't unveil it twice...

    Me too... Can't hurt to have it confirmed more than once though ^^;

    yer those 20/30 vc games are bound to be the ones that everyone wants with the addition of other games to correspond with the wii version of the game being launched, old metroid games when corruption arrives perhaps?

    Day of Diaster isn't a launch titles sorry dude also can't wait for it, the teaser video looked brilliant.

    Nintendo hav enever stated the Excite Truck will be for launch, but it was always assumed so due to it looking like Nintendo want to cover all genres, if ET wasn't there CARS would be there whcih could be decent.

    I really want a set in stone release date and launch games badly and really want to see Leon in SSBB please god he is

    Not really fussed about the VC won't be getting any games on it for a while there are too many goood Wii games coming out, but you never know there could be a suprise still for the VC, namco, capcom or konami games downlaodable, who knows?

    Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

    20-30 games is MORE than enough for VC at the start, considering we'll all have the likes of Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Super Monkey Ball, Metal Slug Anthology and Elebits to play around with! Smilie

    New games at Leipzig? Miyamoto's new game...or Pikmin 3 maybe?

    No, wait for it...

    In the Killzone vein, it'll be Pikmin 4, then Pik3 will slip under the radar and be released on GC the day before Wii launches. Typical (or at least, typical 5 years ago) Nintendo, is that Smilie

    After the success of Naruto on the GC in the US, the 3rd and 4th versions from Japan will instead be put out on the Wii in the US;

    this could be true!!!

    I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

    Oh right...well I meant gameplay wise...like actually playing it. I want to see the controls first, if they've kept it the same or not.
