Nintendo Wii News | 1m Controller Chips Shipping August

By Jorge Ba-oh 10.07.2006 14

Although simplistic and sleek on the outside, the Wii is one complicated little unit within the plastic shell. In order to satisfy a growing number of potential customers for the last quarter of 2006, Nintendo's partners are hard at work making sure that Wii will be ready.

According to leading website GamesIndustry, orders for Wii components have increased, and production targets have been set. One very important part, the remote sensor inside the Wii's unique controllers are produced by PixArt Imaging, who report shipments of the chip may well reach a million in August 2006.

With an increasing production line and orders, this could very well suggest an advantage for Nintendo over its competitors for the very important end of year sales.

Stick with C3 for future updates.

Its all looking swish in the land of Nintendo. Lets hope they can satisfy demand (which is likely to be a *bit* hard) unlike that other console launch back in Q4 2005, mentioning no names, of course.

*cough* 360 *cough*

You know how chilling the small news for every part of Wii is? I love how you guys tell us readers about every chip, every firewire-unit, give us every small picture taken from Wii-prototypes in the back of some filthy warehouse.

Please keep this up. I love it! Helps me shortening the unbearable time till launch of this device built of all of these small chips and tidbits you report here...

Gesundheit!

I hope they can ship enough of Wii for all of wee... I mean: for all of us! (putting 1 Shilling into the Wii-pun-piggy-bank)

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I doubt the Wii will be able to completely satisfy demand, but it looks as though Nintendo will have enough consoles to start eating into the X-360's lead pretty damn quickly!

I too hope the Wii will satisfy demand, not just in hardware but with a decent software catalogue too!

jb: Yes, I hope so too. Especially in software. Launch-titles are looking good and great in number - relatively.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Laurelin: That's because we're diving on every little juicy morsel to help us cope until launch as well!

This is good news, especially since they're supposed to be shipping 6 million...I reckon they should cover their launch substantially.

You're right, it won't. If the DS which is much simpler to make is still running out of stock I highly doubt the Wii will be able to satisfy demand.

I R Wanting a wii now. (go watches E3 videos again)SmilieSmilieSmilieSmilieSmilie

tiamat: They can't just double the DS-production just with a thought. That's called 'logistics'.
If they are planning the Wii-launch in Hardware long before and are going up to 6 000 000 right from the beginning, it is possible. Let's trust Nintendo. The number may a bit high due to marketing-babble, but may be near the truth.
Now they collect the parts. They have to built the 'W', one or two 'i' and Wii is tanking shape. It's easy assembled. But lack of parts render this impossible... *blink*

Mason: I am eternally grateful... Smilie

cool news. at least i may get one on launch day without the major shortage.

and jsut to let ou all know (as it actually shocked me how close it was) wii launch (if early nov) is only 3 and a 1/2 montha away. but you never include the month your in so three months yippee. i ahve to start saving or i wont have enough money for the 10 launch games that i want. yayayayayayaya.

sorry i'm really happy.

just because one part is shipping so much doesn't mean there won't be a shortage.

A controller chip doesn't make the console- what if they can't manufacture enough processors?

Or (and probably more likely) what is demand outstrips supply and NIntendo can't keep up. The DS and DS Lite in Japan had this problem and the Wii's growing popularity could mean we have this problem once more in other countries.

I second what Laurelin said JB. You guys really keep us informed with up to the minute information with all things Nintendo.

the time is gettin closer everyday Smilie about the Wii announcment!!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562
