Nintendo Wii News | Daily Telegraph Features Wii Article

By James Temperton 07.07.2006 37

It isn't everyday that gaming gets featured in the national press, let alone on the third page of one of the biggest publications in the country. Today, UK paper The Daily Telegraph featured a full page report on the Nintendo Wii following a hands on session with the console at an event held in London. The article is a glowing appreciation of just how great the Wii is and is great promotion for Nintendo's system.

You can read the full article here or take a look at our rather large photograph by clicking the image below. We'll keep an eye out for more Wii related articles in the UK press and let you know our findings. If you spot anything, get in touch and let us know!

We'll have a full report on the event from our man Karn Bianco in just a few minutes, so stay tuned.

The article on the right interests me more Smilie

Go WWII Vets! Beat down those fucking chavs!

Yeah, I need to blur that out...

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Nah don't Smilie

Anyway, the main article is definitely promising. The bit towards the end especially about playing it at a party sounds good. If Nintendo market the wii properly they could be onto a wiinner. Smilie

Too late, gone Smilie

Yup, it really is a very positive report. In general, having something about your product in an editorial piece that is un-biased in the mainstream press is massively good news. Kudos to Nintendo.

Public Wii interest seems to be rising of late, coinciding with places like game opening u0pemail services for those interested in Wii.Super!

Wii even won on newsround the other night.

Erm in the summary of all three next gen consoles (to the right of the picture) It says 'free back catalogue of games. Some games compatible with Nintendo Gameboy' <- Is that a slip of the no priced back catalogue and GBA connectivity/emulation for games?

And also 'two dozen games at launch' (hang on... 12 x 2 is 24) thats alot no?

To be fair, a kids show isn't going to promote consoles that trade on violent games, both with high pricetags.

this telegraph article is great though- very positive and they seem to 'get it'.

Wii released end of November and PS3

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Aaaaah, that well known genre, the 'pirate game'.

Yes it's glowing, but it contains all the usual bullshit that comes with out-of-touch publications.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Aye, the Game Boy thing made me smile too, most the facts seem about right though (price, date, etc.)

I think people are barely now starting get that the main feature of the Nintendo DS is not the dual screens but the touch element. That is what draws in new gamers, simplies it for new gamers, and takes the immersion to the next level. The two screen setup is just a bonus, though a welcome one.

Wii will follow in the footsteps of the DS, and becomet THE must have system come November.

Get your preorders now, if you can!

Umm- the games?

I don't understand this whole sudden laughing at a console that is an upgrade of the last gen- the snes and gc were both simple upgrades.

Hardware isn't the only way to add something new. A normal controller can still innovate.

The home buttons is pretty damn innovative, and awesome.

Im lovin' the Wii Shirts~! They need to keep all their adds "hot chick" exclusive. And all wearing wii shirts, and tennis skirts... hmmm

Is it supposed to look like one woman is spanking the other or is that just me?

I read about some of the quotes ("I hate computer games [...] but I have to say this was rather good") earlier on and was thoroughly impressed that Nintendo seem to have actually gotten across their message to a mainstream publication and it was actually deemed more acceptable than other games. This is exactly how they want it, and if they can translate this into marketing it to the public, excellent.

It's very... spanky. That'll appeal to all the repressed Telegraph readers then. It's like when the Mail salaciously prints other papers' pictures of scantily-clad hotties and spends the entire article branding it 'filth'-

"Filth! Look at it, all... filthy. And dirty. Yes, dirty. Awful, of course. Picking at the stitches of our social fabric with its incessant filthiness and degradi... *rubs thighs* Look at the filthiness of this one!..."Smilie

Less posty, more gamey.

this i feel is a good start of the marketing for the wii. lets hope that nintendo can keep this up. and do events like this for all the demographics and hey'll be on the way to a success.

Aaaaaah don't you just love it when people make up bullshit prices? Wii -

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society
