Taking the cover spot this month in MyM Magazine is Netflix's new live-action adaptation of the spectacular Death Note. Fans are understandably worried about this considering the history of anime to American live-action movies. Those who are worried will be wise to pick up this issue where Director Adam Wingard gives an exclusive interview, takes the time to explain his vision, and discusses why he has changed up so many details from the original story.
When it comes to conventions and comic-cons, there is still one that stands head and shoulders above all of the competition and that is, of course, San Diego Comic Con. In this issue, some of the MyM staff takes a look at some of the highlights from the event like Stranger Things season two, Justice League, Ready Player One, and more. Strangely, though, no Marvel mentions! Could the MyM crew be DC devotees? On British shores, the comic-con coverage continues with Manchester MCM and, of course, MyM gets inside information from the event, including a chat with one of the biggest guests, Denise Crosby.
On the previews and reviews front, there are over 50 titles covered this month, including anime content like MVM's Tenchi Muyo! OVA Collector's Edition and Girls Beyond the Wasteland, Manga's Food Wars!, plus All the Anime's Barakamon and Fairy Tail Part 16, amongst plenty of others. Also for the anime fans, MyM gives some of its favourite picks of the new summer season, even if it criminally overlook some really special series! On the movie reviews front, the cover story of Death Note gets a surprising rating, alongside other anime live action adaptations, like Ghost in the Shell, Blade of the Immortal, and Takeshi Miike's Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable... not to mention manga, comics, and TV series reviews, too.
All of this comes along with tons more articles and features, including an exclusive interview with some of the best Japanese bands who have performed in the UK recently, a Xenogears retrospective, an interview with a real Harajuku fashion icon, and so much more. MyM Magazine 65 is available now from all good retailers.
