Final Fantasy IX out on iOS, Android on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Want a portable RPG fix? Final Fantasy IX is now available to play on both Apple and Android devices.

It's been a fair few years since Final Fantasy IX took the community by storm, having sold 5.5 million copies since launching back in 2000. The port for mobile/tablets once again follows Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe as they kidnap Princess Garnet, and bizarrely end up on a unique journey as Garnet had plans to escape anyway.

The new version includes achievements for bragging rights, seven game boosters, the option to auto-save (useful for when the bus arrives at your stop) and improved visual tweaks.

Fancy playing Final Fantasy IX on PC instead? The game is heading to Steam this year.

This was never one of my favorite ones, but I did like it. Smilie

At 3 Gigabytes, though, I can't imagine it's doing very well. Most phones only have 16GB of memory, 11 or 12 of which is eaten up by the Operating System, while many models don't support SD Cards.

Awaiting the PC release. No encounters is gonna make this so much better!

I'm with you on that. The reason I stopped my Level 1 challenge was that I got sick of running from encounters and the load times were really bad for battles. With no encounters, that won't be an issue at all; I'm really looking forward to that.

I'm curious why FF7 and FF8 didn't get brought to mobile, though. o.O
