Nintendo has outlined profit for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, due to a weaker yen and solid amiibo sales.
Nintendo posted operating profit figures this morning of 1.1 billion yen ($9.3 million USD); a sweeping improvement from the 9.5 billion yen loss from the same period last year.
Nintendo has seen improved sales for both Wii U and 3DS software, including the likes of popular multiplayer shooter Splatoon and Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzles & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition. Despite slowing sales of the Wii U hardware over the last few months, the console has now crept past the 10 million mark to date.
Multiple analysts had forecasted losses of 6.3 billion yen average, according to Reuters.
Going forward, Nintendo are forecasting operating profit to 50 billion yen for the period ending March 2016, boosted by the first entries into mobile gaming, Super Mario Maker and more 3DS and Wii U software towards the end of the year.
