Download Localised EarthBound Beginnings From Today on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

During the Nintendo World Championships, the company announced and released EarthBound Beginnings, now out on the Virtual Console.

Mother, the first title in the Earthbound series, was never officially localised outside Japan - having first been released nearly 25 years ago on the Famicom (NES). Now to celebrate the milestone achievement, Shigesato Itoi confirmed that the localised version will finally be available for fans to play - officially - on the Wii U Virtual Console in Europe and North America.

Interestingly, the game was localised into English many years ago - but only released as a fan-translated rom, dubbed Earthbound Zero by the community.

EarthBound Beginnings is now available to download on the Wii U eShop.

The difference between illusion and reality is vague to the one who suffers from the former and questionable for the one suffering form the later.

Awesome! Nice surprise to start the tournament and E3 week.

Earthbound quickly made it to my all time favorite game list after I first played it on Wii U last year.

Looking forward to downloading and playing this one too.

Yes and no. The rom leaked on the Internet was a dump of the unreleased official localisation made by Nintendo in the late 80s/early 90s. Though this was later patched and re-translated by fans indeed, to eliminate some of the censorship and reinstate some of the features of the original Japanese version... though yet again, this official censored version was what served as the basis for the later GBA re-release on the compilation Mother 1+2.
