How amiibo Figures Work in Smash Bros. for Wii U on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

With amiibo on the way next month, Nintendo have revealed how the figures will work with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Producer Masahiro Sakurai highlighted a screenshot from the Wii U game, where players would import their amiibo figure by simply plopping it onto the GamePad's NFC pad. The figures "come to life" in the game, much like the trophies have done in the series so far.

Once imported, players can tap their amiibo on the character-selection screen to let their plastic buddy join in the battle. "Once you do, the trophy of your amiibo character transforms into a Figure Player (FP)!! FPs fight and develop on their own."

That literally tells me nothing that I didn't already know! Grrrr! amiibo just seems to be overpriced individual memory cards to me!

Basically, from what I gathered it's like having your own personal assist trophy, that fights by your side in matches. The more you use it, the more it gains in stats and such.

I still don't fully understand it, but the figures are nice an they will be used in other games, at least. I'm still curious how they will be used in Mario Kart 8.

Not really something I'm in too spending that much when all those kinda things could be tied to your Mii account anyway...something they used to put in a WiiMote anyway!
