In the final update for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS this week, producer Masahiro Sakurai spoke about World Status.

When going online, players will be able to explore how the community is looking when it comes to worldwide battles, with stats being tallied up. In both online Group battles and Spectator modes, unlocked characters will appear so "watch out if you don't want to be spoiled," Sakurai confirmed.

That said, he also recommended that players do select the Online option on first-load as there "could potentially be a patch available that can resolve potential issues, like the one being released now for the Japanese version of the game."
