Why There's a Gap Between Super Smash Bros. Releases

By Jorge Ba-oh 21.08.2014 2

Why There

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has explained why there's a gap between the release of the new games.

The Nintendo 3DS outing will be first to market, out October 3rd/4th (September 13th in Japan), however the Wii U edition will be launched slightly later during "Winter 2014".

The main reason, said Sakurai in this week's Famitsu column, was that "debugging alone becomes a huge project" and the reason for the separate release dates is to ensure that the team "could shift the debugging periods."

Sakurai also noted how he's currently in the middle of the debugging process for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

With the vast number of items, stages, colour settings, rules and more, "in order to properly debug, every pattern must be tried, but such a task would be impossible no matter how many decades or centuries you take."

Which version of Super Smash Bros. are you looking most forward to playing?

Gotta love Nintendo for their sheer dedication to quality...that's something that sony, microsoft AND the Anti-Nintendo community should learn from & appreciate Nintendo for.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Love how frank and honest Nintendo and particularly sakurai are becoming (or have been for some time).

Quite straightforward, not at all patronising and clearly true.

Also interesting to hear that they have some way of not considering every permutation. Would love to know how as that is what I spend a lot of time doing with my game design document.

Its probably called debugging.

Shows how little I know.
