In the Nintendo investor Q&A session, president Satoru Iwata confirmed that Wii Sports Club may get a physical release in the future.
Out this week in Europe and North America, Wii Sports Club is the next steps for the popular family sporting sim. However, unlike the physical disc version that was released alongside the original Wii hardware, the new game will be available as individual downloads. Each sport can be digitally rented for 24-hours a time, or bought as full titles, including with online play and motion controls.
Speaking to investors, Iwata highlighted how the new scheme is designed to "increase the software's sales potential by offering two different options for the people who will play it occasionally and those who will play it frequently".
The lack of physical version may seem like a missed opportunity for some, however Iwata does not "deny the possibility that Wii Sports Club may become packaged software in the future", but the main focus is releasing Tennis and Bowling before the end of the year.
