Captain OlimarThe leader of the Universe's smallest army! Profile by: Connor Brinsmead [ Thief101 ]IntroductionNintendo had a special technical demonstration of the GameCube's immense power before it was release, consisting of many little Marios running around on-screen at once. Not wanting to let the time and effort put into this go to waste, the brains behind Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong, the legend that is Shigeru Miyamoto-san, came up with the perfect idea to utilise the gaming engine. Thus Pikmin came to fruition, thus Captain Olimar came to exist and thus here we have another C3 Profile on a great Nintendo character!StatisticsAge: Who really knows? All we know is that he is old enough to drive and have kids. Species: Again, who knows? Location: He was born on his home planet, Hocotate. Poor Olimar is separated from his home when he crash-lands on a strange planet. This planet contains the so-called "deadly" gas, "Oxygen." The strange world resembles Earth in many ways. The only reason that I doubt that it really is Earth is the fact that I have never actually seen a Pikmin, or any creatures in that game what-so ever. Birth: We know he was born on Hocotate, and that is it (come to think of it, this was not a good character to try to do a profile on, we know nothing…!) Main Features: He is very pale, has really small eyes, a huge nose and a teeny-tiny mouth. Olimar is nearly bald, as you can probably guess from the fact that he has very little hair! His head is a very weird shape, scarily resembling an ovular object on its side and his ears are very pointy, looking a bit like teardrops from behind. He is about the size of a quarter… Clothing: First, he puts on his very bland, cream-coloured space suit, complete with red gloves. Then he accessorises with a stylish gas tank to keep him alive. On top of his space helmet is a very odd antenna, which he seems to be able to call those strange critters, Pikmin with. My question is, however, if he did not know he was going to need to call Pikmin, what is the real reason he has it?ConceptCaptain Olimar is a Navigator. He transports small freight for a living and uses his faithful ship, the Dolphin, to do this. He is hit by a space rock and crash-lands on a mysterious planet. When he goes to inspect the damage he finds that his ship has broken into many pieces. To make matters worse, his spacesuit sensors tell him that he has just thirty days to live on the planet before the oxygen will poison him, causing instant death – something he would clearly like to avoid! Then he stumbles upon the Pikmin - creatures that look much like ants and are practically useless when used alone, yet once in a cluster they are massively powerful. Pikmin listen to his every command, which is definitely a plus as Captain Olimar must use their help to find all the parts of his ship.Appearances Pikmin (GC)Super Smash Bros Melee (GC)Pikmin 2 (coming very soon!) Best AppearanceDue to the limited choice, it has to be the quality Pikmin - a game devised by Mario-creator Shigeru Miyamoto whilst doing his gardening. Some of the best ideas come at the strangest of times...Don't Mention...What a Pikmin looks like, especially to an XBOX or PS2 lover. They are very "kiddy" in their nature and appearance and could make a "Blood-Lover" think even less of GameCube. That is pretty much it!In closing...Captain Olimar has the makings of an excellent new character in a hopefully great new series. Pikmin 2 will be out soon with Olimar's assistant, Loojie. I can see Captain Olimar going far and maybe even beyond the world of Pikmin and into another strange world with different creatures to command, or maybe not...
